I think I was around level 34 when I killed Diablo.

What I do when this happens is I go back a few quests and lvl myself up maybe get 2-3 lvls and then go look at what gear I can improve on.Quote:
No, I suck! I can't even kill Diablo in Normal solo... I ended up going back a bit to beginning of Act IV just so I could level up... at what levels did you guys finish Normal?
My monk was Lvl. 31 when I encountered Diablo...
I got a little routine going on, I will play for a few hrs and start from like 0 gold collect like 80-100k and then upgrade my gear through AH. The AH is so flooded with crap it's pushing prices down I picked up a pretty sick sheild for what I would call a cheap price 35k
If your stuck, go to the AH and gear up.
A word of advice, set a max buy out price when searching. Right now, prices are all over the place with no real rhyme or reason. You can find INSANELY powerful items for cheap but if you don't cap the max buyout price, all you'll see are the expensive weapons.
I think it's utter rubbish that a company with billions in their warchest and years of MMO/server experience could not get this launch right. They had to know an estimate for the number of presales.
As much as I didn't want to do it, I ended up doing this... already up to Lvl 32 now... hopefully at least 1 more lvl up by the time I meet the Mr. D himself... :D
*Possible spoiler alert*
The thing is I always managed to get him down to 1/3 or so (after I beat his alter ego in hell) but somehow mess up and die!!
It's very hard to simulate scale issues in a complex database. It's not as easy as "throwing more servers" at the problem. The DB bottlenecks and you're in trouble. You can throw another machine at the problem, but you've still got to replicate that DB and load it into memory somewhere. If you've architected a DB for a certain amount if I/O, and you exceed that, there isn't anything you can do on the fly to fix it, necessarily.
They launched the game globally at the same time. AFAIK, only the NA servers had serious issues. The rest of the world did okay. Really hard to say what the exact issue is without any inside knowledge, but I know there was some DB corruption issues early on in the NA launch.
I would argue that this is wrong. It is correct if you think about a typical database solution, but I would seriously hope that they aren't using a typical database solution. Instead they are probably using some kind of clustered solution built around things like memcached, etc. For a database of that scale, any kind of media other than RAM will not match your requirements for I/O. Not to mention that in a properly designed cluster solution, it is as easy as adding more servers to alleviate the bottleneck. Not only that, but as the load reduces, nodes can be removed from the cluster and reallocated or sold off. Going forward, any large scale data storage and delivery project really only will survive and be profitable if it is designed around sensible clustering technologies.
And this is from a guy who loves having purpose-built hardware lying around. :p
Im with everyone else here, kinda regret buying the game, yet at the same time its fun and addicting. I see beating it once and throwing on the shelf...definetely not years like D2.
Finally killed Diablo last night! Leveled up to 33 by the time I got to him. :D
Not really relevant since week 1 but still funny...

Beat Diablo.
Wow I think I find my new combo...spam electric bolas and impale for stun. Throw up a bat to keep hatred high and use vault to clear AOe attacks. Rinse and repeat. Took down Diablo pretty quickly.
That said, Rakanoth was a pain in the ***. His one hit kill telelport was crazy. Found out all I had to do was literally run circles around him and dodge his fireball attack while I laid on stun damage.
So I'm finally getting around to going through more of inferno. Act 2 is beyond insane. I had to completely tweak the way I play my wizard just to survive more than a few minutes.
Almost at the end of the act now, but wow... probably 20-30 deaths. The worst thing in the world is damage reflecting champs - I kill myself in 1-2 casts of blizzard. :( What I wouldn't give for a self-healing skill from one of the other classes...
