Link this guys Its at least as good as the ExtremeOCing one and we already have individual stats and they're very specific
No joy on the FX tonight. They sent the wrong ram
I've been running the 4.0 beta and was never able to get SSE instead of the Extra 3DNow boost.
I just found this in the changes for the 4.0 client.
- Configurable minimum checkpointing frequency (3-30 minutes). (In GUI, controlled
with a slider.)*
- If client run with verbosity of at least 5, FahCore_78 will print out a
message whenever a timered checkpoint occurs.*
- -configonly flag added to configure then exit.
- -oneunit flag added to exit after completing one unit.
- -forceSSE flag added. Returns -forceasm to its former meaning of forcing
assembly generally, and takes on the function of forcing SSE specifically.*
- Warnings printed if -forceasm/-forceSSE flags given.
- Benchmarking not done except at start of normal operation (for example,
not if only configuring, listing queue, deleting unit, etc.).
- Warning if attempt to run client with Machine ID of already running client (catches
most common cases, including if running same client twice)
- Web site printed updated.
- Upon finishing a unit, if fails to return the result but succeeds in
getting new work, immediately tries sending all results again.
- Checks user name and team number for legality of use in statistics. (In
GUI, gives popup error).
- Queue info properly outputted to FAHlog.txt.
- "Ask before connecting" change on Linux -- ignores typeahead and asks for "C"
- Proxy password written out in binary (upon reconfiguration)
- Assignment/work server request authentication
- Send all message altered ("sent x of y" if x not 0, or "no units...")
- CPU usage default of 100 printed out during Configuration.
- Tags in MyFolding page changed to better adhere to HTML standard
- Maximum machine IDs raised to 8.
- Upload and download bandwidths estimated to send to AS.
- If fails to post data, includes server and port in message. Also outputs
HTTP status code (before this was only done if I.E. settings used).
- Bug fixed where performance fraction could exceed 1.
Now SSE works. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else was having this problem with the Beta.
It also reduced the time per step in my current WU from
7 min to
6 min 20s
Indeed this has been noted a few times but since this thread is no so gigantic it bears repeating. If you use beta4 and have an AMD cpu you must make it -forceSSE to enable SSE instead of -forceasm[3.25]. -advmethods will still give you Gromacs WU's
I read through about half the thread but I didn't catch it. I guess I should have just asked about it earlier and it would have saved me some trouble. Oh well, telle est la vie.
saps, can we sticky all the links to the point sites, tips, and individual wu points links at the top of some post? I'm having trouble keeping track of where they were posted in this thread and i think it would be easier and more accessible to everyone...:D
edit: and that way, we wouldn't have to link people all the time in our replies, just refer them to the thread beginning or a seperate sticky thread. Is this a good idea??
i think this would be an excellent idea!! especially now that i've finally decided to start saving some of them as favorites!! :)Quote:

I'll do it but also let's just bookmark them all
my faster machine (2.1GHz AXP) has repeatedly gotten smaller WUs than my 1GHz Duron system.Quote:

Sounds like Thermo might not be using advmethods on that rig of his. Anyway, don't worry about the size the 32-38 Point WU's actually give me more Points per hour so to speak than the 51-60's. Using advmethods almost ensures you get Gromacs WU's which take advantage of SSE and that makes a big difference. Those 71 point Tinker WU's look great until you realize they take so long to complete.
Um... How do I join??? I've been running for a few hours but it doesn't seem to update... here's the pic of the window

Is there some other kind of stuff that I need to do for me to join?
right click the little red icon in the system tray, and choose configure...pick a name (preferably the same as you use here) and enter 34149 for the team number.Quote:

and yes it is updating, it just takes many hours to turn in a single work unit, especially that one (638 and 639 proteins take a REAL long time, but they're worth a lot of points)
for more info on how to configure folding to run more efficiently or whatnot, check out the faq's and stats sticky at the top of this forum
Ok thanks a lot for the info, I'll check tomorrow and see if it's updated or not :)
Yeah cube see the FAQ sticky. You won't appear on the teams page until you turn in your first WU. Also you definitely wanna follow the instructions for getting Gromacs WU's. While the one you're one is worth a nice 71 points I'm betting it will take you nearly 2 days to complete. In that same time you can accrue twice the points working on smaller Gromacs WU's. Also be sure to minimize that GUIQuote:

Ohhhhhhhh!!!! I know how the thing works now :D Time for me to run this on 3 PCs together :D (Heh talk about abuse) Thx again for the info :)
With the 4.0 Beta on an AMD machine, what should I see when SSE is forced on.
I see a line that says:
Assembly Optimizations manually forced on.
and another that says:
Assembly optimizations on if available.
Is this what I need to see?
Nevermind, I see it now, it just tool a while to write it to the log.
I know you know now Thermo but for everyone else Extra SSE boost OK must always appear. Top 550 now, we keep going green and then not green. A few more cpus should consistently keep us in the green.
Well the FX51 is built, soon as I get the correct ram it should add a few points a day. I OC'ed the 2100's a little and have the bata 4.0 on one of them. Just waiting for the second on to finish the unit it's working on.
What's the best WU type to get? I use the -advmethods tag, and my laptop always gets 500s while my desktop gets 2500s.
Sounds fantastic. You wanted some in-team competition and from the looks of things you are vertices are nearly at the same level of production for the past week according to Statman. It will be interesting when he gets back from his honeymoon if he also increases his load. Also I'm going to have to increase my own I'm dropping back to around #6 for the past week
IMO those are the best ones. 500's count in increments of 5 and 2500's count in increments of 25 sound every frame is still 1%. These are generally 33-38 or 51-53 pointers which at least for me give me the best time/performance ratio.Quote:

what are these 2500 ones? of the near 400 WU's i've done for the project, (most on my own time, just recently started folding for sharky) i've never recieved a 2500
here's a question for y'all: how many of your folding rigs will be down for a while over the holidays? I imagine we have a number of people taking long vacations or (like me) going home from college. Not that I exactly make-or-break our production ;), but both my computers will be down for 3 weeks.
