I see he has an extra 50Mhz core. Maybe if I get another 100Mhz CPU I can break 30k. Not a bad price. Its ending up costing me maybe $165 after getting rid of the other Clawhammer.Quote:

all that talk of 30k is making me wanna hit the big 30k myself! I first broke 20k when I got this 9500-9700 and with my 3200+ castle I had 20.8k but broke 21k shortly. Going winny and tccd gained me 2k(with barely more gpu clocks) I am now to 23.8k at 289x9=2.6 on my winny. How much more cpu power will it take for 25k? 30k? What if my 9800p I have does 500/400 how much easier will this make 30k?

You will be far better off waiting for Venice then go s939, perhaps a dfi nf4 mobo. Venice will clock farrrrrrrrrr better, no s754 claw is gonna touch a Venice except if both are clocked the same but Venice will easily muscle ahead BIG time. Plus with s939 you get dual channel and can upgrade to 1mb san diego later when prices for those drop a bit ;) :D
OK, T'birdy, I'll bite....but can you give me more info about Venice and San Diego? Only thing I know about Venice is that it's in Italy (I think) and that there's a county?/town? in the US with that name too. Same goes with San Diego....just a name for a place in the US to me. :oQuote:

Tbird, venice has 512k cache. for 3dmark, it will always be better to have 1mb. Suggesting a 939 claw or San Diego would be good advice, but from claw to vencie will be, at best, a side grade.
There are no indications whatsoever as to how well venice will clock, but it will need to do considerably better than the recent winchesters to make up for the cache deficit.
well right now where he stands, hes got a 3400+ claw at 2.35GHz with low fsb. Dont tell me a Venice will be a sidegrade for him, if he gets even 100MHz higher clocks, hes already going to be ahead starting at 2.45GHz or higher. We are seeing some winnies doing as high as 2.6 to 2.8GHz air cooled and not all are even the expensive 3500+ model either!
Naturally, we can expect Venice to start with a 2.8GHz average overclock and just get better from there. By average, that means some Venice may only do 2.5GHz while the gems could break 3GHz. He could get a 3700+ claw but thats $350 easy for what? 2.6GHz average? Itll only take 2.7GHz on the Venice to match that claw cause of dual channel and higher ipc. I am being conservative on the 100MHz higher, it may not take even that much!
Of course he could have the best of both worlds and grab a 4000+ diego which should be out in days! However the price is likley to be steep, id say $650 is likley and ill be real supprised if its not over $500. Venice on the other hand should be under $200 for the 3000+ model because a 3200+ winny is now below $200. There may not be low model diegos cause amd wants to keep the 1mb cache premium high price. I also expect diego to have better yields and speed bins and overclock 200MHz more but thats just my speculation.
He would be wasting his $ getting another s754 cpu at this point because he will be at a dead end and forced to upgrade both cpu and mobo to go venice/diego. I say he should just sit tight, hold onto his claw and wait for reviews of diego to come shortly. I will base my judgement on Venice based on how diegos clock and perform, ill just subtract 200MHz overclock and 512k cache

The image above shows that his claw's cache pulls ahead in drag low and is tied with me in drag high. edit: It would be a more fair comparsion with equal gpus in equal res with equal drivers and equal cpu clocks. I remember asking Eshbach to do a 3dmark run at 230x10 with his claw in response to Macci's winny.

There is alot less difference than I thought now that I go back and look. However to give credit, Macci may have had done more tweaks, his huge lead in the lobbies suggested he used codered's a64 tweaker to really tighten the timing. I dont even know all the tweaks he did, hes a benching champ thats not to be underestimated :D He can score as high or higher than anyone with equal cpu and gpu clocks. Lets just focus on dragon and car for now, youll see that the claw has a 15fps lead in cl and 31fps drag low, 2fps for drag high but thats a very minor lead. Car high is very close, probably close enough to be within margin of error. Lobbies are the only two tests that are far apart which I actually find kind of strange. 15x10 + 31x10 + 2x20
150+310+40=500 marks, if and only if every other test was equal. 500 marks can easily be overcome with less than 100MHz higher cpu clocks.
You can see that I have compared my 640x480 run at 262x9=2.36GHz so I am ahead in ch and both lobbies but supprisingly, my gpu at 640x480 *still* cant touch a stock x800xt in 4 tests! The nature bar is alot longer than both dragons and cl so its clear the cpus a huge bottleneck except for nature. I would gain very little in any test except nature if I had his gpu(unless I have like 3.5GHz fx55 LOL)
one more thing, the winchester has dual channel and 90nm enhancements vs. single channel and 130nm for the claw. If we compared a s939 fx55 vs. a s939 winny at equal MHz, the difference would be alot higher. diego will be even faster than 130nm fx55 clock for clock too. I stand by my advice that a 3700+ claw would be a waste of $ for him but im also not telling him to get a winny. I thought about that as well. For an upgrade to s939 it would have required a new MB and Video card. Can't go for a new board without PCIe :D I don't want to get a new video card until at least the time they start making revisions to the next releases.Quote:

Just a little update. I went ahead and put the Mach 1 on the video card and made some runs. Fun stuff to do it this way, but I'm a little frustrated with the card right now. I can't get it to go with more than 1.7V, no matter what I've tried. :( I've done, and re-done, the OCP mod, spent about a whole day pouring through the Vgpu controller data sheet and trying a few new things out. OCP mod is right, I don't know if the gpu just doesn't handle volts, if one of the FETs in the PWM is flaky, or what. I may just go ahead and do the DI CPU as is, but I have a mod for the card I'm trying to work through and may put it off another week to try it. We'll see how I feel tomorrow afternoon, I'd have to get the DI by 5 pm or wait until next week.
Don't get me wrong, I'm real happy with the scores I've got, I just know if I could get 1.85V I'd have 800 Mhz out of the card and I could get where I want to be.

so about 70mhz just from mounting the prommy on it w/o any more volts? not bad, hopefully you can get over 1.8v with it.
i have a somewhat related question pertaining to mounting the evap on there. IIRC, the prommy has a pretty big evap head, larger than the ATI GPU core... so how do you get contact with the core itself? Most efforts to get my kryo mounted have resulted in very poor contact because of the shim. did you just take the shim off?
I dont know whats up with your gpus volt limits, maybe the capacitors start crapping out past 1.7v? does it crash past 1.7v or what symptoms is it showing? No matter, more gpu clocks isnt gonna matter for 3dmark 2001(except a few fps nature) sick 40.8k by the way! I cant wait to see what you can do in a few weeks when you get your hands on a diego 90nm fx55! Probably 300-500MHz higher cpu clocks and 8-9 marks per cpu MHz cause your 98% cpu limited with such a fast gpu! and if you feel like plunking down around $700 for an r520 youll enjoy a whole new world of 3dmarking with 700+ in nature in 2001 which should be worth about 8k on top of your x850xt if its as fast in other tests, especially car high. Thus youd be 53k :eek:

lol, with the AGP card I was all set to trim down the head a bit (hacksaw the insulation around the evap)....no need with the PCI-e card! It fits, barely. I started with some clamps, but I kept getting misaligned when I set it, and not enough pressure. I ended up getting threaded rods (#4-40, 3"), drilling through the evap and mounting like any other gpu cooler...with neoprene and liquid electrical tape of course, grease in the slot. The evap itself fits right inside the shim perimeter if lined up right. The shim should be OK, even if the evap was bigger. My DD waterblock is flat-based, no offset core area, and covers the shim, but I still get good contact with that. These cores are flush with the shim, you just need to line up right when mounting, and I know it's not easy, but it can be done.Quote:

@ T-Bird: The symptoms? As soon as the card goes under load it will halt with vertical bars on screen. This is different then my AGP card did when it hit OCP, it would just black screen until OCP was tweaked right. This happens now, regardless of clocks, as long as volts are over 1.75V. I've been so up and down the data sheet and my card that I am pretty certain it's the pwm breaking down, but 2 channels, 4 FETs and lots of caps per channel, it is going to be impossible to isolate the failing part I think. I tried to do this once before on a friend's 9800XT and never did find the failed part.

That 2001 score is very poor, your only getting the performance of my winchester at 2GHz :( you really need to get your ram bandwith up, half multis further kill your bandwith. get some tccd dude and run at least 260x10 and youll gain as much as 2000 marks!
tbird is right in that you need to get the bus/ram up, but i think there's more to it. my old 30k claw score at 2.43 is almost 100fps ahead of you in dragon low, that just doesn't seem right.
