I still might have trouble getting 30k after the upgrades. Here is why. Since I was going s939 with my San Diego I could not stand updating without PCIe. There is no way I'm paying close to $500 for another 6800GT. I would have probably thought more about it if they were closer to the AGP price of $399. Instead I got a X800XL for $299 and a DFI Ultra-D for $159 at Fry's. From the benchmarks it seems to kick a$$ with pixel shaders. The only thing that was far off of my 6800GT was doom3. It was not worth the near $200 difference. The top 3dmark scores seem a little lower though with 2k1 toping off around 32k (The cpu was near 3.2Gz for the top ones though. I'm not expecting that).

There were several deal breakers for the x800xl beside price. First of all I'm only running 1280x768 with the new monitor. Secondly ATI allows you to disable DDC. I hope to be able to use that feature to at least get 1360x768, hopefully the full 1366x768. With the nvidia drivers there is no way to get over 1280x768. Third is it uses less power and will be easier to cool/silence. Even with the NV5 silencer the noise is louder than my other fans.

And i dont know where your looking, but 6800gts are now below 350 for the pci-e version, and about 300 for the agp.

My water block will work with s939. They might have went up then. Because newegg is $379 new for the AGP version. The $300 on is REFURBISHED. It might have came down in the last few days again. I'm noticing froogle is coming up lower. I was not finding PCIe under $400 ANYWHERE early last week.

Man, look on xs.org in their classifies... there are some sweet pci-e cards, like x800xt's and such going for around 400... i was so tempted.

Xtremesystems? I don't have access to their buy/sell forum :( I did not want to but I ended up reducing my 6800GT/NV5 down to $300 shipped. I'm going to need to get back what I charged on credit ASAP :D Especially doing things like this 2 months before my wedding when I will need it. I'll hold out on the X800XL for about 10 months when I get my next tax return. Something reasonable from the new generation should be out by then :)

Just to wet your panties, there was some ram that did 1.5-2-0-2 at 270 that went for 210dollars!

Sure it is! Just post your system spec in the proper format(like the very 1st post on pg 456) and I'll insert you into the team...for the #1 spot in the 9700P class. ;)

I guess if you want to get technical, I dont' really have a 9700pro. its a 9700, but it was bios flashed.

CPU - newcastle 2.4ghz, 240x10, HTx3

Motherboard - DFI lanparty nf3 250gb

RAM - 2x512mb buffalo tech ch-5 240fsb (5/6 divider), stock timings (3-3-3-7)

Video card - Sapphire 9700 (flashed to pro) 380/350

Operating system - 2k pro

Cooling - slk-948u with enermax at full. vga silencer rev.3

Hehe, he will probably pull some excuse out of his *** like saying were using more expensive cooling, which will just turn around against him, because dry ice is actualy cheaper than a atisilence...

No go so far with new hardware. Running CPU just fine at 2.2Ghz but overclock seems limited and that video card crashes with pretty much any more advanced test. I'm not having a good VC week (with the 6800GT issue and all) :( It did that before and after format. And also with drivers 5.4 and 4.12 (no ccc). 3dmark 2001 runs everything except nature. Aquamark hangs right when it finishes. Doom3 caused VPURecover to kick in and forced a reboot. Possibly there is a PSU issue since I'm winging it on the 20pin one until the new one gets here. I'll try that out Thursday before putting it down to a bad card. I'm not seeing any CPU/memory errors. I guess I'll stick to stock settings until then. The highest CPU temperature I've seen is 31C before the AC kicked on ... folding at 27C right now :)

You're in! ;) 'Grats on making #1 in 9700P class.:D Could you check the spec I'd inserted for you? I can't quite remember the default clocks of the 9700P...some other detail's missing...like :
RAM - PC3200? PC3500? (I'm guessing PC3200)
CPU - S754 3000+? 3200+ :confused: (I've guessed that it's a 3000+...but ain't sure
Enermax 80mm fan? Model?

Like I said, I'm pretty anal about some things....:o :D

Whats that utility for viewing X800?? Temperatures? That might be my problem. It ran nature fine first. All tests finished fine if I paused and ran them 1 by 1.

Gotcha. ;) So I did get the stock speed of the 9700P correct at 325/310? It's been a while since I had the 9700Pro....basically forgot its specs.:o

That could be it. It says 81C idle. After 1 run of Nature in 2k3 it almost hit 110C. I'll pull it out and check everything this afternoon. Maybe I messed something up when I put the AS5 on it.
