It takes too long to drown, they'd have plenty of time to climb their way out.

Fire does destroy drops, yes. Though, I'm getting images of a series of pits that lead to underground, submerged tunnels that draw mobs/players to a centralized drowning/item collection pool.
Which leads straight into a base, so that items dropped when the entity dies float up to a pool easily accessed from safety.
Take a look at sand water traps. It's amazing what you can kill with some stagicially placed water, torches, and sand.
So what's the word? I need to update the server software again?
There is a(nother) new server update today:
"The client has been updated to 1.2.3_04 (hey look at that!), and the server has an optional update to 0.2.5_02."
Logged on to the server, twas night. I asked if anybody was online, no answer. Then I got ganged up by the mobs, and died. I had no idea the mobs were on, so I got taken by surprise.
Alright, now for a combined effort!
awesome
As someone who's never played Minecraft, that is awesome.
Hiding on top of the ADI building for now ;)
Took 12 swipes at a skeleton with a diamond sword and it did nothing. Is it possible to kill MOBs?
I killed a skeleton and 2 zombies with a single swipe to each. This was with a diamond pickaxe.
Btw...
server.properties still has monsters=false
So not sure why mobs are spawning. I'll research more when I get home today.
Do we actually take damage on the SMP server now? Seems like I remember that being in one of the recent updates but I haven't played in quite a while.
Yes, at least from mobs.
Haven't tried jumping off my building or anything yet. :p
Well, that explains a lot. They changed the name of some of the variables, meaning that they added the new variables with default values (such as spawn-monsters=true instead of monsters=false).
Updated server.properties. I have changed the order of the properties so that they match the order that is listed in the wiki to make it easier to go down the list and double-check what might have changed in the future.
Spoiler
The creepers are at the 20, the 10, the 5 .... Touchdooooooooown
Do creepers basically blow up anything but obsidian? Seems like I remember some block types that TNT didn't blow up so I'm wondering if the same could be said for creepers.
