I had a little trouble mixing the beta with the older consoles, seemed like it wouldn't want to send me any QMD's and when it did they weren't that much faster. I ended up removing the old consoles from my machine. Anyway, if you have problems or you don't seem to be processing about a frame every hour, if your running two consoles, or a frame every 30 minutes (P4 at 3.0GHz time) try removing all the old consoles prior to installing the beta stuff. Don't concern yourself with the first 10 frames on the QMD's, their time is not representive of the last 90 frames.

If you look at extreme's team listing, compare what I am doing now to what I was doing 4 or 5 weeks ago, same 4 systems two P4's @ 3.0GHz (one running one console and one running two consoles), one "old" 400fsb 2.6GHz at about 2.7GHz and my trusty Abit BX6R2 with a 600MHz celeron running at 912MHz each of which now running the 5.04 console.

Wow, nice increase in pts with the same machines. My increase is solely from getting some of my unused rigs unpacked and set up finally after my move this summer. Are you running two QMD consoles on your P4-3.0s? Or just one and the other non-QMD?

Two 5.04 consoles running the QMD's. If you run two consoles, your machine will take a real performance hit, more than the older consoles. I leave the system on 24/7. For web or normal use I leave both running. I have a shortcut to services on my desktop and will quit one and somethimes both consoles if I want to game or whatever. I'm not sure that pausing the folding services works as well as quiting, I would think it would be the same but...

You moved to Texarkana from El Paso correct? Talk about a difference, desert to the piney woods. Been in both cities a number of times. Great BQ place about 30 miles west of you, north side of the freeway near Mt. Pleasant, I don't remember the name.

k, someone explain since i've been out of the loop - QMD?

my production is coming from an x2 4200+ at stock speeds for now, plus an xp1800+ at stock and an xp2500+ at 2.2Ghz. and then occasionally, i might get a WU from an 800Mhz slot A athlon. it was on a computer my brother took to florida when he moved down there.

In QMD core, there is no force field – atomic interaction is calculated using quantum chemical method or by solving Schrödinger equation. . . . When carefully conducted, quantum chemical calculation gives a very reliable potential energy surface. Also, it can naturally incorporate multi-body interactions. In force field approach, such interactions are usually accounted through polarizability."

For folders it means huge WUs that require lots of memory and can only run on Intel CPU because it requires Intel's version of SSE2, or some such explanation.

I calculate that my P4 3.2s that were doing a little over 200 ppd will now be doing around 300 ppd.

so in other words i don't have to worry about it, since i'm 100% AMD

is there anything that i should be doing to maximize my production from all systems though? i've just recently switched to the 5.02 console (haven't gone to the 5.04 beta yet), and just went through the basic walkthrough on the setup, didn't use any flags, etc (aside from setting machine ID). any other flags i should use? is the -advmethods flag still legitimate?

Right, for now don't run QMD (big WUs) on AMD -- the 96 core runs MUCH slower than other units for you.

-advmethods still gets you the newer units.

edit . . . just got another rig folding -- an X2 4200+, so with that addition and the new QMD units on my Intels maybe I can get close to red again. The heat is off in the house and it is around 65, except my office, which is 75 from the folders. :D

I'd left F@H to work another project, but the project ended. Damn, down to 12th on the team now, gotta get cranking. It won't be until Tuesday before I can get all machines I have at my disposal setup, but most will be online this weekend.

So, to save myself some reading, with 5.03 GUI or 5.04 console, what are the flags to set now on both AMD and Intel?

You only need to set the local flag on multicore or HT machines now.

During config you can select advmethods and big units (units over 5mb). Only select both of those options on Intel procs.

Yeah I noticed that for a while now. Congrats on the reds.

Its like there is some sort of email notification for conquests. I just noticed a few ghost accounts suddenly turn on like zombies when you pass over them, rev up a few work units and then die off again. lol. Kind of amusing.
