Not to mention a football that doesn't drip blood...
Article up on the ESPN front page about my favorite player -
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playof...ory?id=3214646
Not the best I've read, but pretty good. My favorite story was one he told a reporter about being at a bar one night when he played for Miami. Apparently he was chatting up some girl, and when she asked what he did for a living and he said he played pro football, she just laughed and walked away. :D
It is widely accepted that the NFL today is actually more dangerous than the old pre-pad days. It's also more dangerous than rugby. All the padding and protective equipment actually ADD to the overall danger level in many ways, because players do more dangerous things when they have the pads to fall back on.Quote:

The brain trauma is the most dangerous part. Ask trent green for example. They are just starting to study the effects, but football can easily lead to recurrent migraines and other injuries.Quote:

There is also no blocking in rugby, and you're not allowed to leave your feet on tackles. Along with the fact that you're offsides if you're behind the ball, and you get a game where there are essentially no blindsides, no random killshot blocks 30 yards away from the play for no reason, no spears, none of that crappy "tackle a guy by diving straight at his ankles," etc.Quote:

your allowed to pick up and drop plays, but their entire body cant go past horizontal and parallel with the ground (so like an = sign not // to = to \\ )Quote:

TO) that may be fun but theres not alot of spirit (i remember him doing something to that dallas star a few years back? :O )
haha the point of rugby union (which there s league version of also) is for fluent flowing rugby thats good looking (the new zealanders and south africans best illstrate this)
however no world cup comes close to a australia-new zealand test match - ive been lucky to play 4 years in high school for the australian schoolboys, most nfl players are still dwarfed by some islanders (like tonga, fiji, maouri's etc)
ive been hit harder in gridiron tbh, but ive had worse injuries in union (fractured neck worst one, spent 1 night in hospital b4 i refused meds and walked out and play 2 weeks later) gridiron here, they just fling their bodies around, i (yes im a assitant lb coach - i help my neighbour) teach them to play smart and tackle effective...yet they see LT (the real one...Taylor) make bone crunchers and they wanna emulate that...
oh well....
When I said blindsides, I meant on people OTHER than the ballcarrier, as in people getting blocked. No blocking in rugby.Quote:

the only main rule with leaving your feet, is that u make "Considerable" effort to use your entire arms to make a tackle, i once broke a guys sternum with a semi-tackle where one arm moved to tackle the complete playerQuote:

its a general rule, if the # on his shirt is lower than yours? dont mess with him lol, though; im a fly-half/five-eight (#10) and ive had good punch ons with some #1-8's who are mean grunts from my day
haha, tell your club i'll come over and train you guys :D maybe even play lol...nothing like a little bit more help lol?
We have foreign players come over all the time.Quote:

this game has been called ever since the pats signed randy moss, I probably won't even watch.....the pats will easily win unfortunately, and with that everyone will forget about belicheat and he will be enamoured as the best football coach to ever walk on a field.
The Super Bowl is no longer all about the game, though. I personally am more interested in the football being played, but it has turned into such an event between the parties and the commercials and the etc. etc. etc. that it's not really something you should miss anymore.Quote:

you should see some of the youtube stuff, the most painful looking hits were placed by the smallest looking guys...still, the greatest tackle ever was done on the field in the game that they play in heavan :D
I'm looking forward to free agency more than the Bowl. We have a lineman or two to steal from the Colts. ;)
That said, good luck today Primate. It must feel awesome to see your boys in the Bowl, and they deserve to be there after an impressive win at GB.
