If you can wait till next fall you are better off. you will see if the Gamecube and Xbox will have potential and by then, you will some better PS2 games.

fact is 640x480 for a console sucks no matter what you are playing. I own an original PS and I loved it for certain games like Tekken, Coolboarders, etc. but now with the new pc gamecontrollers available there is no reason not to make them for the pc. But some of these games are made for consoles only...personally Id be happy without any console if they made all the console games on pc also.
I play Quake3 like a madman on my pc...I went to my buddies house who just got Quake3 for Dreamcast and was tellin me how awesome it is and how good he is at it...
I have NEVER seen anything as pathetic as seeing Q3 on a console. Man that was horrible...I feel very sorry for console only people. Do they even know how much they are missing?

I have to agree that people who only own consoles are unfortunate, but not pathetic. I own both a PC and Ps2, i like to use them both in different ways. For fighting games a.k.a Dead or alive, the Ps2 cannot be beaten as it is much easier. For games such as Deus-Ex then the keyboard mouse combination is far superiour (spelling). Of course, i a making these points for if you do not own other peripherals for the formats. I know that soon a Keyboard mouse will be in common use on the Ps2 and that there are game controllers out there for the PC. I would also have to disagree with some of the comments about the resolutions. True, on a P.C 600*400 is a very poor resolution, but i can hardly see the difference with that compared to 1024*800 on a game like Quake III. True the pc has less jagged edges, but remember, its the gameplay above the graphics. True, a console or any other format will sufer if its games are graphically bad. But about 2 months before the Ps2 arrived my original Playstation had completly killed itself. So in went the trusty mega-drive. The first game i plaued was the original Sonic. And although the graphics are incredibly dated, and the longevity stupidly short, it took hardly any time to comlete it. But, because the gameplay was good i kept playing it and many other games. True i still had my PC, but occasionally i need a break from it. And i will either do something useful and constructive, or i will play with my console. Why can't we all just get along? In a perfect world, both would be combined to make a super-console. But its not. Also if money is available then a console is the better option. £300 for a great console. £1700+ for a great p.c. Although the games for PC's are cheaper, does anyone actually spend over £1500 on a single games machine?

I hate ps2, it was so hyped up and its nothing. i agree that the games are impressive and fun, but who cares that it has a dvd in it. The dvd sucks. Id rather play on the computer or wait for the xbox since its far beyond anything the ps2 has. yup yup

For those in over here in the UK. Great news the Ps2 has had a price cut! A whole £8! Wow at this rate it might be down to £280 by the time x-box gets here in a years time> Woohoo.

Should realize that all consoles have things going for them. Nintendo has the great characters in Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. These are the games everyone knows. Now Sony and Microsoft are the newbies in the field. The PS2 is alright, but it should have had better game support before it came out. I have tekken tag and ssx - Both are excellent games. All other playstation games I've played (a limited amount) are bad with the except of games from SquareSoft. Price is an issue and the PS2 with DVD is excellent if you don't already have a DVD player. The GameCube will be excellently priced.
The X-Box and PS2 support cross-platform online gaming. Unfortunately I don't have access to a broadband connection so I'm left in the dark. The nice thing about the PS2 is its ability to play PS games. If you never had a PS, you can still buy games such as Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9 and play them. This adds value and lasting ability to the PS2.
Overall the best platform, in my opinion, is the computer. There are many problems with the computer, but also many advantages. A computer might not run a game well, but you can also play games created a long time ago on the same comp, which is the system, as your new games. The computer can play games of all eras. Unfortunatley there is less and less support for PC games and more and more for consoles (Games like Final Fantasy 9 aren't being transfered across platforms). Games are good in general. If you had to pick two systems from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft or a good computer, I'd say that you'd have to choose the computer and either nintendo or PS2 right now. We can't say anything about the X-box until people can actually buy it. I'm glad that I have a good computer, a Nin64 and my brother has a PS2. You need all the systems for the best gaming enjoyment these days.

For all those people who think the X-box will fail because it is Microsoft's first console, the ps1 was Sony's first console too, and it outsold even the Atari (that's a fact).
Only time will tell how good X-Box does. And the reason why ps2 games are not good is because programmers find it difficult to program for it, once they understand it properly, the games should get much better. I saw somewhere that the ps2 developers provided very few DLLs for the ps2 and the programers have to make their own, making it difficult to start with.
