When I first read it, I was thinking "How could you spend $5k on dual MP 2200's??". Everybody was all "quad xeon 2.4 OMG!" and I was thinking "bah, it's all about Opterons with that many CPU's".
Then I noticed the date. lol.
I didn't realize the date either, lol. I thought this looked really stupid. Who digs these up? And why?
I dug up an old thread once. . then it died . :(
I could and am.Quote:

Cooler MAster ATCS = 100
ASUS motherboard and P4 2.4 = 200
ATI All-In-Wonder 9800Pro = 200
280GB worth of Samsung SATA hard drives = 200
SilenX >14dbl fans = 30
SilenX >14dbl 350W PSU = 90
Toshiba 8X DVD-RW = 80
Audigy2 ZS sound card = 100
Gigaworks 7.1 Suround Speakers = 400
All that is left to get in a 52inch wide screen DLP TV/Monitor = 3500
How does that sound for a RIG?
wow, 2 years ago the top of the line was a 2.5 ghz p4. We've prgressed so little in the period of 2 years. Kinda sad, I guess moore's law isn't very applicable these days:( For Moores law to be at all applicable we would need cpus at least 5 ghzs today. We're only at 3.4
I think that we could be there if the need existed, but the demands of most users don't warrent it. Why try and build a family sedan that can do 300MPH when the average driver doesn't ever go much above 70MPH?
When the rest of the industry start creating the need for a 5GHZ machine it will not be far behind.
how about letting the thread die?Quote:
