Fastest CPU for 8KHA+?

I used to use the 2612 BIOS. It is fairly old trust me, since I remember using that BIOS many many months earlier.

Now posting from a 8KHA+ w/XP 2400+. No problems....so far. Just put the CPU in set everything to auto detect and rebooted. Screen shows CPU 2400+. :)
I used the 2B06 Bios.
Time to change my sig.

Got it at 145FSB. Just like my XP1600+ it won't go past 145. If I unlock the CPU will I get higher than the 15 multiplier I have now?

no, that's a limitation of the motherboard, not the lock on the cpu. 15 is as big of a multiplier as that mobo will let you have.

at first glance i'd think your ram is what's holding you at 145fsb, but you mentioned you're running corsair xms 2700, right?

Epox's website says the 8KHA+ can support upto a XP2600+ 266MHz FSB version (2.13GHz), so it supports upto a 16X multiplier.

*edit*

However, manually setting it to 16X might not be possible, since I think the way the 8KHA+ works with the 2600+ is to auto-detect the settings.

I was wrong about that, I have xms2100. It's definantly something like the mem,the power supply or maybe my bios settings. I have the mem settings maxed out. I've found maxed mem settings yeild better overall performance than being able to raise the FSB an additional 5-10 points higher, over current setting.

I was thinking of upgrading the mobo when the serial HD's come out. Might need to get better mem when I do. Or should I make the step to Raid 0 now and not wait for SATA?

CajnDave, is your 8KHA+ a October 2001 revision one?

Because mine is, and if it really works, then I'm keeping it and will upgrade the cpu when time (and money) permits.

I've also got an 8KHA+ mobo, and an Athlon XP1600+ with PC2100DDR SDRam, and the highest I can get the FSB is about 156 with a voltage boost to the CPU. You aren't likely to get much higher than that no matter which ram you use, because the limitation is on the PCI cards in all likelihood. I even tried PC3200 DDR SDRam, and it was exactly the same result, so it's not going to help you much to get different memory. That's just as much as this mobo will do, I'm afraid. Still, like I said earlier (and some parnoid Intel freak had a baby about it), not bad for such an old board to be able to run new chips.

I got it to 153 last night it ran all the Sandra benches but crashed running 3DMark2001se. Odd thing it showed my ram as PC1600 when set at 153FSB, must be a divider kicking in. I had the voltage at 1.85 and the CPU got up to 100deg F. Now back at 145/1.75 and 90deg F.

I wonder at what FSB above 153 the divider goes back to normal/stock?

in your bios under your ram timings if you've got your dram clock set to "by spd" then your memory probably is running slower than pc2100 speeds. i've found that when you overclock to certain levels it'll kick the memory speed way down (not sure exactly how much or why it does this though)...for example, when i set mine to "by spd" i can run my cpu fsb above 180, but the memory isn't even running at 133 at those speeds.

so, go into your bios and where it says dram clock (it's either above or below the dram timings setting, can't remember off the top of my head) and set it to 133. when it's set here no matter what fsb you set for your cpu, the memory will run at that exact same fsb, whereas when it's set to by spd you can get some funny numbers for memory clock speeds.

Thanks, I forgot about that. Now running at 150FSB with dram clock at 133.
