The only thing I ever boosted off my family's PC was its Windows XP sticker.
My family was too poor to own computers, then when I got older and was able to buy things for myself, I got one. And never has a member of my family had a computer that was faster than mine. They are usually old throw aways that I have no use for. Well except for that time my Dad snubbed me and bought a POS HP. I was pissed about that. But yeah stealing hardware is kind of lame. I've spent a summer with a friend who had a GF3 when all I had was a R7500 and I was tempted but not stupid.:p
But the software is a differant story....;)
I have never stolen from my parents PC. My dad wants to build a new one sometime soon and I am actually probably gonna give him my 1600+ when my Barton comes this week.
grr! you're so lucky... i hope i can do something like that in my cybercorps class next year!Quote:

He told me they were gonna be tossed or something, but that the school wasn't gonna keep em. I grabbed about 10-12 40gb hard drives, 6-7 Pr 1.6ghz, 5-6 P3 733mhz (and their respectable fans) and enough motherboards/memory/vid cards (crappy ati rage pro 128) /cases to build about 12 computers. School didn't care, they were gonna get rid of em.
I ended up selling the computers to people for about $250 each. I was a very happy boy in those days :D I was the only High School Senior to be able to walk around school with $1000 and not worry about money:D :D :D :D
haha i took a pentium 4 sticker from a school computer last yearQuote:

Again, I didn't *steal* any of these parts. The school said I could have them. Just wanted to make sure everyone knew that.
OK, sometimes this gets a bit 'legal', I guess. Reading that 'the tech guy'Quote:

said u can have them doesn't exactly imply that it was OK
with the school. Now, I could see you asking the school, them saying
'no way, we need them' and then throwing them out just to be creepy
about it.....
stealing from the family computer...... well it never happens because the family comp is my old PC! and my current one is always way faster :D
I am sorry, but I believe you should leave your sister's pc alone. You built it for her, so it is her property now. However I see no reason in trying to explain to her why you want to swap parts, and if she says no, at least you were honest about it.
I swapped my Radeon 8500 with my brother's 9700 non-pro the first day he got his computer parts. Of course my brother is a computer dummie so he didn't notice a thing.:D
Stealing from friends and "stealing" from school are two fairly different situations. Your friends generally work hard for the money they put into their PCs and are quite proud of them. Also, if they are even halfway computer savvy, they'd notice if you swapped cards/RAM/procs with them. I, for one, wouldn't want to shaft my friends because that's what they are: friends.
Now school, on the other hand, is completely different. To clear things up, all the parts I took from school (the HDs, LAN cards, RAM, etc.) were not being used AT ALL. They were stuck in ancient computers meant for opening up and staring at. That's it. Should I have left a perfectly good, working 30GB Western Digital HD in a machine with a Athlon K-6 450MHz and 32MB of PC100 RAM? One that sat under a table for 99% of its existence? Of course not.
To add to that, our school system just pasted a massive levy and got a a$$load of money. If they need to replace anything, they'd be able to more than easily (come on, it's not like I took entire PCs). My IT room needed a good spring cleaning anyways (if an IT room has more than 10 Pentium 1s and ISA mobos, it NEEDS a cleaning).

Now I am not going to be judgemental, I am no saint, but your post makes absolutely no sense. As it is your friends and family who pay the levy, and the property taxes. So tell me how do you figure no one gets hurt?
I asked the tech guy what was going to be done with it, then when he said they were going to be tossed, I asked the vice principal if I could snag some parts from them. I wouldn't trust the tech guys at my old school simply because when RAM went bad and the system wouldn't boot, they'd order a whole new system because "they don't know what's wrong"...The next day I brought in some new PC133 ram and stuck it in, and it worked. He was like  wow that saved us a lot of money, you should be doing what I do. :rolleyes:Quote:
