You got me thinking back... The first PC I made was a 386SX/25 later upgraded with a co-processor (WHOOT!!) Damn was I pissed when it didn't do a damn thing to speed up the system :PQuote:

But I've gained some confidence in my upgrades from being here :)
Well with the help of a tech savvy friend, I built my first pc in 2001, but except for the case that machine is long gone...July this year, got into SF and the high-end guide at SE, and I'm upgrading one or two components at a time. So my second (current) comp is thanx to SF/SE:D
Now if I could just make up my mind about a new mobo...
built my first rig with the help of a friend in the summer of 2000...when i started looking to upgrade i came here for opinions & options.
Absolutely got most recommendations and help here. Turned me on to newegg, epox as well as other pieces which have turned out to be excellent. I continue to browse as I upgrade. Thanks to everyone!

The first computer I built was an Intel 486DX from spare parts that I got from asking people for their old computer parts. It was just about the time that the Pentium 200 was the chip to have.
The first system I built with new parts had a PII400. I remember a couple days after building the system the PII500 was released. The system had 128Mb of RAM, a 2.5Gb HDD, and a 2X CDRW that would only burn coasters.
After that one was a Athlon 900 system (more of a mobo/proc upgrade) and then my Athlon XP 1700+ system (I'm typing this post on that one).
I joined the forum between the Athlon 900 and XP 1700+ systems. While I didn't learn much in terms of how to build a system, I learned a lot about what parts are good and bad. I look back at my first few systems now and see the glaring errors in hardware selection I made. That happens no more thanks to Sharky Forums!
I think I came here around the time I'd replaced a few parts in my P2 300 with a P3 600 CPU, more memory, etc.
Don't recall looking for much help in doing that but I did get a great deal of help from Sharkys when I built my next one from scratch.
I've done another 3 since then and have always used this site when choosing parts as well as getting advice on installing. I like to think I've been of some small help to other members too on occasion.
Nope, but when I built my second computer, I got tons of help and therefore it is much better than the first.:)
i SHOULD have came here....but i built 2 computers before i landed here.
I just built my first machine a couple of months ago, largely through the use of Sharkey's guides and reading the forum. It went together smoothly and has worked great.
Abit NF7-S, AMD 2500+
Built the machine in my sig with teh help of Sharky's (although I believe the NF7-S was MY idea :P)...can't believe its been half a year already....now if I could just get a decent overclock WITHOUT windows corruption
I lurked at Sharkys gathering information for my first build. Once it was done and working I joined up and joined in. That was years ago now.
I did it all by myself when I was 13. I never saw it as being hard at all, I just did it.
