You don't think the sub $200 P4C's were made for people not willing to drop $1000 on a chip? I personally think that although not at AMD levels, this last P4 release definately provided some price/performance. I would be nice if they incorporated an expanded cache into some lower priced chips, but I'm happy that they have acknowledged the enthusiasts. Of course I don't think the 10 - 15% performance gain in any way justifies the price.

From what I best understand, a paper launch is where a company release the specifications and benchmark comparisons (where applicable) of the completed product (and even send some to review sites) , yet the product won't be avaliable to buy for a good while (say a couple of months).

There was no reason to call these guys rich bastards. Comps and gaming is just their hobby. Im sure a lot of people including myself sacrifice a lot just to buy the best hardware.

Eg: Buying a cheap and economical car in order to save $$ on gas so in the end you get more $$ to use on comp hardware and what not.


Besides if any of these guys were filthy rich, they wouldn't bother building their own. They could go to www.falcon-nw.com or www.go-l.com



They make the best pc's overclock them, blah blah and what not. That's only if money is no object.

How much do you guys think the release of the EE will drop the prices of other intel chips by, if any?

if the cost of the chip at launch is 900 bucks plus, it will have very little effect.

C man does have a point, if you have the dough, then why not. I do think it's a bit crazy at $1000, but hell if you have it, spend it.

I don't see why people are bashing the P4EE, getting it is just as expensive as getting an Athlon FX-51 (counting mobo, registered RAM costs). If you have the money, more power to you, and I'm jealous of you.

I work hard for my money... If I want a $1000 chip, then I am going to get it... I do have priorities, but it is still the money I earn.. Obviously the money I would spend is not anything vital to my mortgage, utilities, insurance, office, etc...

So why not? I have upgraded my 800Mhz FSB processor 3 times since it had been released... I think I was one of the first people at sharky to have a Canterwood + 2.4c setup :D then a 2.8c and now a 3.2c (which I sold, I like upgrading every 400Mhz :D)

But that is just me..

Some people spending their money on other things that make them happy or hobbies.. I just prefer spending it on Computer and Nitro RC Cars :)

hehe, I have a HPI Proceed (1/8th onroad) the car kit alone cost me $650 and that doesnt include anything! Not even tires! That car alone cost me about $1400 :)

...that's along the lines of thought I was on when I went out and built the first Athlon MP rig on SF (or damn near the first). I blew a huge wad of cash, built this big sparkly dual Athlon MP 1.2Ghz thing, benchied the bejeezus out of it on a game I didn't even like (Q3) and then sat there pondering my fate, having blown vastly more money than was reasonable to do so on the CPUs and mobo, which in all reality would have been vastly better used on something else. And I raised my fists to the heavens and shouted "WHY DID I *%&$ING BLOW ALL THAT $#*&ING MONEY ON A $#@%ING DUAL-#@$%ING-CPU RIG WHEN I COULD HAVE INVESTED IT IN HOOCH!? WHY, OH WHY!?"

Then I curled up in a ball in the corner and cried. Later, I got up, got in the truck, and went to buy more beer. Case closed.

Oh, and Saps doesn't really live in Mordor. He lives in Cleveland. But he doesn't want to scare people too much, so he says Mordor instead...
