sorry had to fix that for ya ;)
and this gets a big HA HA. My buddy had the same thing happen to him last night. Rather funny. I am sure if you buy the game and contact valve they might hook you up, but who knows :)
They should. They have absolutely no legal standing taking your money and denying the product.
ha, pirating noob.
The method you tried does actually work, quite well. Just gotta make sure to unplug your ethernet and never get back online (with that account)
With the online mods for HL2, its almost impossible to get the full exprience without buying it.
The more threads like this I see, the gladder I am I didn't buy the game ^^.
And to all those who claim that no fully working pirated copies are in circulation: would you like to come over and play with me? Didn't pay a damn cent for it. And I'm glad, because it's a fairly good game, but DEFINITELY not worth all the hassle. I just think a lot of people have been brainwashed by the hype machine... go figure. I would feel seriously stupid for having spent $50+ on it.
And I don't usually show off pirated copies. Hell, I don't usually condone piracy. But with the monster Valve has wrought*, it's only natural that they reap what they've sown. The more problems they get, the better.
*Steam, not HL2
I'm not too crazy bout a few things. I know where your getting to, but it's a bit more then that.Quote:

Maybe the story isn't grasping me quite yet, but I am regretting the purchase. Perhaps I'll get into it a bit more. Also the loads are just stupid lol :(
I'll play it a bit more, but first impression made me think twice about my purchase...
you are cool. your epenis must be huge.Quote:

Look, I don't see why so many people have a problem with it. I preloaded the game before it was released, came home, put my CD key in, let it decrypt, and was playing within 15 minutes. That's just about how long it would take to install the game with the CDs. The only thing I don't like is having to connect to Steam everytime I want to play a game...
My biggest gripe about the game like everyone else is that the amount of time it takes when I click on the shortcut HL2 to the time Im actually playing is ridiculous. I know I can have steam load with windows but im the person who will have as little processes running as possible. They should have had steam authenticate or whatever while the game is going through the intro. Other than this, game is awsome.
I agree 100%. The initial load sucks.Quote:

My question is, what's going to happen to HL2 in five years? Is Valve going to be running Source servers dedicated to supporting the initial connection process? If they are, aren't they going to lose money on the upkeep of that infrastructure that's on par with what they'll theoretically lose to piracy? I understand the need for the validation process, don't get me wrong; it's just that I don't think this is a long term solution for them. I'm guessing an official Valve patch will come out that'll allow you to play the game sans-Source in the next year.
I knew that it works. It did work for me. I started to preload the game just to see if it would work. I KNEW that I was gonna buy the game. I just wanted to see if there really was a way to download it. Once it started to download, I clicked cancel. A few days later I bought the game. I feel that even if I did try to pirate their game(which I didnt), so what, I paid for it later. They got their money.Quote:

I dont know, I am just sad that this happened to me. And for a very stupid reason. If i just created a new account and bought the game there, this would never have happened. Valve is not punishing those who tried stealing their game, but those who tried stealing and bought the game later. Those who stole the game dont care, they downloaded the pirated version and are playing right now.
So basically they are punishing those who are kind of in the middle between being a pirate and a good customer. I dont understand why they would do that....
Because I'd bet you never, ever try to mess around with pirating another game from Valve again.Quote:

Still, what Valve is doing can't be legal. He paid for the product, and is not getting it. Were it purchased via credit card, I'd dispute the charge.
More likely it causes him to never legitimately use any of their software.Quote:
