I just finished playing around with the 64-bit version on an old IBM ATA100 drive. There was a TON of activity...a Raptor would be very nice. In my opinion, the performance is not up to par. I understand that it is a beta, the x64 beta version I tried was very much inferior, but I think the OS is just trying to do too much. I feel like a lot of things need to be disabled...like User Account Control, the Help program, and Security Center.
I even went back to the older interface and got rid of Sidebar. With my system, I just don't have 50+ MBs of RAM for a couple of Gadgets. Windows Explorer crashed a few times and Vista's response was to restart Explorer. It happened while I was installing Office (which is pretty sweet), but the install completed without a problem. That was nice.
It seems like there are a lot of failsafes built into the OS. That's awesome for the people who hate turning off their computer, but I do so every night.
Most of what I have said probably doesn't make much sense, but Vista in one word is...overwhelming? It will be a sweet OS though.
I couldn't install my Audigy 2 either.
