I'm trying to get 4 years out of my current rig.. I've managed to upgrade quite a bit on this but anyways since I'm mainly using my stuff for office, far from the hard core gamer.. I usually stick with $800 systems or so which means lower than $100 cpu.

Although you may be right, by next year (the time I'm going to build), the p4 2.4ghz or something might be under a $100 (although I doubt it since P3's cost $120 something now). But it would be nice if it happened.

Also my celeron 800 with a Leadtek GF2 GTS and 256MB Micron PC133SDRAM isn't bad..

Take a look at these screenies from dungeon siege in this thread http://www.sharkyforums.com/showthre...hreadid=127844 .. I got good framerate, and no skips but I'm playing in 1024 x 768 x 32, not 1600x1200.

No its not that. My friends roomate just spent his hard earned money on a Dell Dimension 8200 I think. P4 1.8 with 512 MB PC800 and a GF 3 Ti500. I sware it wasn't much faster than my friends celeron 1.0ghz, maybe a second or 2 in loading games and stuff but other than that, right on. This is real world performance I'm talking about, not benchmarks.

But you're right.. I don't use photoshop type programs so I don't need the top edge performance, so why should I pay for what I'm not going to use? Besides the way computers are.. its either spend $400 for 2 years and upgrade or spend $50-100 for 2 years and upgrade. I choose to spend the latter since I'm no nuclear scientist, just someone with a small business who likes to game seldomly. ;)

That's cool.....no need to upgrade in your case.
I upgrade when I sell my rig...which lately has been about every other week. Selling my scondary rig keeps me in a new rig quite often and I usually don't spend a dime doing it. ;)

Yep I remember the last test, that Willy rig came in and out in a couple of days. :p Yep, I changed my mind about the T-Bred as soon as I found out about the 512k of cache on the Barton... drool ... :)

It requires more horsepower than any of the plugins I use.

The reason I did the render while downloading as well, was I noticed that the 1.9 Willie that I had starting choking on this task while downloading. The 512k cache seems to help this out quite a bit. I can't think of another reason for it to get so much better than the Willie?!?

I used the exact same psd file for both procs for this test so it would be totally objective.

Photoshop and Live Motion are the main Apps that I use, so those are the only ones I'm concerned with.
And no..I'm not converted lol....but I'll get more resale for this rig than I did my XP1900+ ;)

Here are a couple of pics of the rig..one just after I dropped the HSF in, and the other as it is now.
I dropped my Gainward Ti4400 in it and put the V-Tek Ti4600 back in my Dual rig, since I'm done benching this rig.

Dayum! THis is where athlon XP's excel... even with half the cache of them woody's. Hmmmm. Im loving that XP of yours Kev.. well... its gone already so.. i LOVED it :(. Only 13mhz away from 2ghz... oh my goodness. I would've liked to see a 2ghz P4 go up against that thing.


Although Im still highly considering getting myself a woody. I dont know... the high numbers make it very very tasty. I would like to see a review with against an athlon XP, in alot of games. Im a gamer :D. Like Mohaa, Dungeon Siege, C&C renegade, yadda yadda yadda. :).
