Take that nail polish out of the trenches and use Superglue.Quote:

Make certain you remove it ALL.
That's the only thing I can think of? ;)
allright, I'm about to try this for the fourth time now. Gonna remove all the nail polish from the previous attempt, and I'm using superglue this time. So we'll see what happens.
hmm superglue....the artic silver of unlocking xp's.....
right, and why were you using nailpolish? and what the heck do you have nailpolish for????? (please say you just went out and bought it or borrowed it from your girlfriend....) :)
if you'll look back earlier in the thread, you'll see that nail polish was reccomended for sealing the gaps. But it didn't work for me, so off to superglue. Just put the glue on it, waiting for it to dry now.Quote:

Oh, actually I had this nail polish just laying around my house...:p, no not really...I went out and bought it last night, and I'm giving it to my fiancee now that I'm through with it.
What's the problem with nailpolish? is it conductive or doesn't just fill the gaps good?
They didn't. Duron's and Tbirds were like cake to unlock. Now Palominos are much more difficult per se. However it can at least be done. Ever heard of a guy unlocking a Intel cpu; let alone multiple average Joe overclockers.Quote:

The good news might be the Tbred. The pics I've seen online seem to suggest the Palomino trenches aren't there????
well...still didn't work. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I had the glue on there in between the dots, w/o covering them. I didn't have any of the bridges connected. I wonder if its something that I have to change on my motherboard itself. But what happens, is that it'll post the first time with the fail-safe defaults...100 MHz FSB, etc. But as soon as I change the FSB to 133, or change the multiplier, it refuses to post. This is getting rather agrivating...I'm about ready to just remove all the stuff and forget about even trying this.
I know this is probably dumb to say, but....
Make sure that "Speed Error Hold" or whatever it may be called on your particular board is turned OFF.
Sometimes those "Fail Safe" defaults include a setting that says..."Don't BOOT if CPU speed is detected incorrectly"
Don't give up Retrofade.
Sorry I don't have any sugestions seeing that I never unlocked an XP.
And every thing I've read about it has been said here.
I've got it posting at the moment...but only with the fail-safe defaults. Now its running super-hot, and WCPUID is telling me that its an Athlon MP instead of XP. Something rather weird is going on here......
Joe - there isn't any option in my bios for "speed error hold" or anything else like that.
That is not uncommon don't worry about that that has happened to me others many times beforeQuote:

well, shucks. good luck with it. i wish i could help more.
is it possible to unlock the xp's using a conductive pen over the nailpolish? and i dunnot understand what the defroster repair kits are

I'll let KJY9 school you on the merits or not of nail polish vs superglue.Quote:

Ugh...I'm soooo sick of that discussion...use the search mode he he ...I will say that clear nail polish to seal your unlock is a good idea once you're certain it's unlocked ;)Quote:

defroster repair kits usually have some conductive paint that you would normally use to repair the defroster lines that run across a rear window of a car if they had been scraped off...turns out the stuff is conductive enough to connect the bridges, so many ppl use it to unlock their CPUQuote:

ookay ya that sounds like it'd be perfect...
what about also --
i was thinking
(sometimes i do that...and occasionally things come to me ;D usually not tho :()
would it be possible to make something that wuz really small that would connect the bridges by going "ober" the cpu, so it would rest only on the contacts, and not ever touch the green/brown piece? isn't that basicallly what the mod is?
it migh be a long way of doing essentially doing the same thing as the glue/conductive paint modification, but i am also just testing to see if i understand how the mod works correctly...
thanks!

dangit dangit dangit dangit...I swear, I just freakin give up. It still won't work, and now I've run out of the defogger repair kit stuff as well. I have no idea what the heck I've done wrong. I'm gonna give it one more try tomorrow, but after that I'm just gonna screw it.
Quicky question, when you raised to 133fsb or higher did you also lower the multiplyer in case your temps or the cpu are holding you back from reaching the intended speed? :)Quote:

having the FSB at 133 shouldn't hold me back at all...as that's the standard setting for the Athlon XP. But now my temps are at 55-59C whenver I boot up, so that's something new that I have to figure out. I'm probably gonna get some thermal grease in a little bit. This is so bloody agrivating.
Remind me what hsf and thermal grease you're using now. 59ÂșC on boot up is rather highQuote:

using the HSF that comes with the retail AXP, with a Globalwin 4500 RPM fan that I added.
me thinks you need a better hsf combo....thermalright ax-7 or alpha pal8045 and a panaflo should do the trick :)Quote:

planning on purchasing those very soon...but it had been running cooler before yesterday. Which is the extremely odd thing. I just went out and purchased some AS3, which should help me out a bit (I hope). I'm also planning on ordering an AX-7 and a panaflo either today or tomorrow.Quote:
