Hey lonewolfroger go here and you will find about 4 tools to keep you online using dial up. I've never had to use any of them but seems as though they are worth a shot.

Thanks, I will try them out, I was bumped off the internet again this morning, but it happened at a time it did not affect my folding.Quote:

i get this error message at the bottom of the screen saver in the log:
Error: Could not transmit unit 07 (completed November 24). Keeping unit in queue.
and this one in the lower left hand corner:
could not connect to work server (results)
i have allowed internet access for winfah.scr, fahcore_65.exe and fahcore_78.exe
i have even tried disabling the firewall and it still gives me the message. what's wrong?
As long as its in Queue, you have not lost it, sometimes the server you are sending it to is down. I would click on the shortcut to see if it will send in the results and after you get the results sent in, I would go too program files, F@H and delete the fahcore_65.exe core.Quote:

please explain 'click on the shortcut'
You did make a shortcut to the desktop for the 3.25 beta or the 4.0 beta, which ever one you are using and then by right clicking on the shortcut, you added the -advmethods and -forceasm tags for the 3.35 beta and the -forceSSE for the 4.0 beta.(instead of -forceasm). BTW, what I mean by click on the shortcut was that usually when F@H has stopped trying to connect to their server, I quit the program and restart it by clicking on my shortcut, so that it will try again to send in the results.Quote:

i have no idea what in the world you are talking about
Go to the F@H FAQ thread above and check out how to set up your AMD system, if you have it set up this way already then fold on.Quote:

oh ok did not see that.
i run the screen saver. what do i do
Relax the servers are merely busy; anything in your queue will eventually be sent. What is a greater concern is the fact you got both 65 and 78 cores. 65 is Tinker which you don't really want. 78 is Gromacs and that's good. Delete that 65 asap. Sometimes that doesn't always work so you might have to do a uninstall/reinstall. Make sure you got the flags correctly they will pay huge dividendsQuote:

ok i deleted 65. when i started the screensaver again it just downloaded 65 again. what now
whatQuote:

uninstall Folding and reinstall it. Make sure you don't start it for the first time until you have the -advmethods flag in place. After Folding installs it will ask you to start now and you uncheck that box from there you create the shortcut to the red icon place the flag[s] in the target line and place the shortcut in the startup folder. Refer the the Set-Up/FAQ if neededQuote:

again, i run the screensaver. there are no shortcuts for me to make.
You are running the graphical client right and if you are, Then what you should have done is download, both the 3.24 graphical client and the 4.01 Beta graphical client. Then install the 3.24 client, then move the 4.01 beta to the 3.24 F@H folder in program files. Then right click on the 4.01 beta and have a shortcut sent to the desktop, then right click on the short cut and properties, now go to the setup FAQ thread and see how to put in -advmethods and -forceSSE.Quote:

I AM NOT RUNNING THE GRAPHICAL CLIENT OR CONSOLE VERSION, I AM RUNNING THE SCREEN SAVER VERSION. IT IS A SCREEN SAVER AND STARTS WHEN I LEAVE THE COMPUTER ALONE FOR A LITTLE WHILE. I DO NOT START IT MANUALLY. THERE ARE NO EXECUTABLES I CAN CLICK TO START IT. IT IS A SCREEN SAVER, AND IT IS CALLED WINFAH.SCR, BECAUSE IT IS A SCREEN SAVER, AND YOU CANNOT START IT MANUALLY. THIS IS A SCREEN SAVER, IT IS NOT THE CONSOLE VERSION. IT IS ALSO NOT THE GRAPHICAL CLIENT AND THERE IS NO ICON IN THE SYSTEM TRAY FOR IT. IT DOES NOT RUN WHILE I AM USING MY COMPUTER. IT RUNS WHEN I AM NOT AT MY COMPUTER, BECAUSE IT IS THE SCREEN SAVER.
OK, got it, I don`t know if you can configure it or not.Quote:

Uninstall the screensaver, download the graphical or console client. You want F@H running all the time - it won't slow anything down.
thank you!Quote:

and i like the screen saver more, i think i will stick with that
You're wasting idle CPU cycles, and not working the Tinker units instead of the Gromacs. Every little bit helps, but you could be doing alot more.Quote:

Sorry for the confusion mate. Its just you're the first and only member I've come across using the screensaver per se. I'm afraid I have no familiarity with the screensaver and thus cannot help you much here. There's a part a me which would echo the opinions above and have you use either the GUI or the console so as to maximize your/and our teams performance. However, if your preference is the SS and that's what you like I guess that's better than not having you on the Folding Team at all.Quote:

How can I increase the CPU workload for the folding program? All my other machines use ~98% CPU utilization when nothing else is going on, but my O/Cd P4-3.0 never runs over 50% even though nothing else is running and the rest is idle.
Can I run a second folding executable, or is there a way to increase utilization when the machine is idle (which is most of the time right now since I'm painting the inside of the house)?
Thanks.
Yes, you can run two instances of the console version. Download and install in two seperate directories, then start them up one at a time and set the affinity )Task Manager for the first instance to CPU 0 and the second instance to CPU 1.Quote:

Much greater performance.
Roger that -- I'm on it.
Make sure you set the affinity for both the core and the program (don't remember the names now, now at home)Quote:
