Too many bassheads in here...

You know this to be true, when people think bass is more important than mids and highs, thats laugable, most music resides in the mid range and upper range... why do you think the most anal audiophiles still listen to two full range speakers, connected to a two channel tube amp!!!???

Not an Ultra system + two SWS... yes Pinchy, you prefer bass over all other freqs. Not to mention, you've recommended the 212 Pros, over the 497s for headphones, you like your bass... nothing wrong with that, but thats not the most important freq, like you'd make it out to be.

You don't have to pair the Axioms with a good sub to beat the Ultras in sound stage, mid range, high end etc.

Any low end middle end Axioms or Rockets, or B&W or Paradigms, are better for music than the Ultras, sub or not!

If you want the best set of speakers for music, then the Ultras aren't your thing.

Im going to jump into every Ultra thread and say the same thing everytime... the Ultras are a great set of MM speakers, but theres a bias on these boards, theres a bunch of people who prefer bass, on these boards also.

Evil Crouton, listen to both if you can, if you can't read as much as you can about both.

Believe me, there is a majore Ultra bias on this board, major.

You're right - a lot of people do reccomend the ultras over the gigas based on sheer word of mouth, without having demoed them. Being that I have demoed them both for an extended period of time, I feel that I can voice a pretty decent opinion.

The Giga sats are without a doubt a much better build, and being that you can snag the Gigas for dirt cheap, I'd probably go for a set if I didn't already have the Ultras.

7.1 IS overkill. I cannot even think of 10 titles off the top of my head that fully supports 7.1 Most movies are still on the 5.1 standard, and I'm sure that 99% of music is still stereo, so in a sense, anything over 2.1 is overkill. 4.1 is nice because you can have it mirrored, but that'd be enough. Your comment about people changing their minds about 7.1 is unbelievably ignorant. I'll change my mind about 7.1 when it becomes more widely used, NOT when Klipsch decides to go 7.1.

Those full range speakers costs thousands of dollars can hit just as low as any setup on the market. You don't need a sub.

I'd say 75% of music resides in the mids/highs. You're listening to three quarters of what was meant to be heard.

Sure, I do like bass. It doesn't mean I prefer over all other freqs. How do you know? Just because I have the Ultras and a few measly SWS subs doesn't mean I like bass more than anything else.
I've been eyeing a 5.1 Klipsch Reference set for a while now...RS7s and the lot when I graduate this year for my apartment. Plenty more "musical" than my ultras and those lil Axioms. Does that still make me a basshead?

Besides, those SWSs aren't ever even on, cept during movies or or when I throw a lil party at my lil college pad.

I have reccomended the 212s, but NEVER over the 497s. I like them because they're great for games, and they are great in terms of musical quality for the price/steal at a whopping 30 dollars. Given the choice again, I still don't think I'd drop another 30 for a marginally better sounding set of cans. At the same price, I'd definitely take the 497s. But then again, 60 bucks isn't going to get you that good of a set cans anyways.

Duh, a sub is in the low end. 4x the price per speaker vs each sat. It better be better.

Again the simple fact that most genres extend well into the sub 50hz range, makes that a poor argument. You're missing plenty of notes.

I don't think anyone has argued that the Ultras are a better musical setup. We know that the Giga sats are marginally better, and the Ultra sub is a few margins ahead of the Giga sub. You can base your decision off that, depending on your musical tastes.

Bias? Definitely. But rightfully so. The Ultras are just a better all around system because they can do it all. Music with not too much noticable difference, movies, and gaming steps ahead of the gigas.

They better be, for the price you'll end up paying. Lets see, set of Axioms, 250 dollars. Another set of rears, to match those fronts, 250 dollars. A 5.1 Reciever, 400 dollars. A decent sub, 300 dollars. Lastly, a center, 200 dollars.

We may be biased, but you're more so on your Axioms. Let's just remind everyone that they're:

Don't stand too tall on those Axioms, because there's plenty that could sink those lil bookshelves. Complete a 5.1 set or not, I'll be doing the same with probably Klipsch Reference set, and then who'll be enjoying a better sound stage?

Please, we can always upgrade to some Axiom m60ti, vp150s, and QS8s to compete with your Klipsch Reference. Which would be better? There's no definite answer. Personally, I've listened to the Klipsch Reference series side by side with Monitor Audio Silver series. The horns and high sensitivity of the Klipsch allow them to play louder at the same amperage. But when the volumes were equalized, the Monitor Audios sounded better to me.

I guess I'm just one of those people who do not prefer the sound of the Klipschs compared to other speakers. Something about them just doesn't sound right to me.

Axioms on the other hand have a very similar sound to Monitor Audio as well as the Paradigm Reference Studio series. Both of which cost considerably more than the Axioms.

Once again, it boils down to preference. Maybe you like the sound of the Klipschs better than any other speakers. BUT, that does not mean they really ARE better than any other speakers.

The only reason I even mentioned it was because I wanted to show that although I am defending the Megaworks, I no longer even own them. I sold 'em on Ebay. If this shows anything, it's my LACK of bias. I am constantly buying new speakers. And it's usually a different brand each time. Although, these Axioms are a rare find and I may be sticking with them for quite a while. And I WILL mention them as often as I please.

Hmm not to sound rude or anything but your post was just as redundant if not more so than any of the people defending the ultras lol. Comparing apples and oranges isn't going to bring this dicussion anywhere. Having said that I can't speak for other people but I try to not have a large bias for the ultras just because I purchased them. Maybe you weren't takeing offense at me , but what you said in these last couple posts targeted all the people that have purchased ultra sets.

People seem to like bashing anything that sells well and performs good. Same thing happened when the original pm v2.400s came out years ago - there were those that bashed the hell out of them - why? god knows there was nothing on the market to compete with them at the time but they did it anyways.

I will agree there is a pretty large bias for them on this board - however that does NOT go for everyone. THere are some ultra owners out there that aren't narrow minded and have a peice of mind knowing they made the right purchase for their useage.

To you xcjago- you didn't answer my question yet - have you given a proper audition to the ultras or was it a best buy demo?:eek:

Ya best buy demos are horrid, i listened to the ultras, and some z 640's, and the z640's seriously sounded better than the ultras.

I like how every time someone is discussing the Ultra's vs. Giga's, the Axioms somehow get brought up. If you guys are going to compare speaker sets, try to compare apples and apples. It's quite obvious that comparing the Ultra's and Axioms is equal to comparing apples and oranges.

Well Xp has a point. And we should all strive to get along. I can say I try my best but certainly don't make everyone happy. :) I want peace everywhere I go, cause I am a mediator between friends.

As for me, I can use both bookshelves/receiver +ultras. I am fortunate enough to have a full time job for the next few mos until school when I swith to part time. Oh So there is 2 applications

1. Pc gaming/DVD/win apps
ULTRAS

2 TV/console/vcr/ps2/CD player/AM FM RADIO
Bookshelves and Receiver will do good such as Tannoy+Yamaha on ebay

I dont see how you guys can have only one set of speakers. Oh yeah, I live in a house, so it is different when space is a concern and your tv is used on different things. I dont think I can have everything hooked up to ultras without some issues.

I don't know why people are getting so antsy about it. The Ultras are currently seeming to be the best all around speakers, XP listens to the same music I do (Tool, APC) and he seems to be very happy, I am going with these speakers. Stop making a big deal out of nothing people! :p

I don't know sh1t about audio but I love my ultras. I haven't tried the gigas though. But it seems that giga owners get a little disturbed when ultra owners say they love them. Whats wrong with being satisfied with your purchase?

On the other hand, if you want the Giga's, get them, because you will love them also. They are great for music.

It's gonna come down to how much you have to spend and what set you can get your hands on. I'm telling you man, you will be happy either route you go:)

Well I can afford either one. I want the best set for music. I like playing my music really loud when my parents are not home. So I want something that still sounds wicked at high volumes and has a good bass system (Songs like The Package for example, have some good bass in them) where it's not thumpy like the Z-680s but rather very....hmmm, clean bass, I should say. The Ultras seem to fit the bill like the Creatives do, and the Ultras seem to have the better sub, and only get mildly beat in the sats by Creative.

I really want to hear the Mirage too, I wonder how this and Rsx klipsch sats are. They would be nice upgrades to attach to MM speakers. I would do it if i got them So cheap. what was it, under 80 bucks? Damn you soup!!!

Well you know the pros and cons of each system, so now you just have to make the decision.

Nah, I don't wear tennis shoes. ;). But I'm not going to lie, I really like Klipsch. They make some really good stuff, and man is it beautiful. I've been sold on their reference set for a while now.

But it does boil down to preference, and I love the sound of horns. I never said they were better to any speakers. I may really like Klipsch, but that doesnt mean I'd go out of my way to just purchase their prodcut. If someone points me in a better direciton before I make my HT setup, I'd be all over it and consider carefully.

The reason I brought up the Reference sereis was that I just wanted to make the point of comparing a different class of HT speakers than to those mi2s. It's just stupid.

Actually, you can really disregard my comments, they're not really aimed at you. Idiot on the other hand, is so biased and knows a whole lot of nothing about MM and just sits pretty and claim his Axioms are better musically, and ignores the fact that he has no low end at all. I totally agreed with your Megaworks statement. I love them, and their midrange is fantastic. But I made the point that without tweeters, I think they lose in terms of musicality. Is that a word? :)
