D&D 4th Ed is Out

Awesome, 4 is definitely enough to play with. Give some time to get familiar with MapTool and I'll set something up!

If you're interested in playing, go ahead and create a lv 1 character using the character builder, zip up the .dnd4e file and attach the zip to this thread. We'll use Vent to communicate while playing, so I request that everyone have a mic.

If you're completely new to the game, feel free to read up on the rules in the Player's Handbook but don't go crazy trying to learn everything; the best way to learn is to just play. As long as you know your character and what skills/powers he has, you are good to go!

Sweet! When do you want to do it? I should be free this Sunday. I will be out of town on Friday and Saturday.

Sunday is the 4th of July so I'll be BBQin' that day. Monday I have the whole day off so I'm free til about 1am that night.

Oh, and everyone download MapTool and confirm that it works.

Does any one know what kind of person they want to role? I'm considering a Dragon Born Paladin, but I'm pretty much open to anything.

I might have to work on Monday morning...but hopefully not for too long.

Also, who do we have lined up?

EDIT: Maptool runs on my computer.

EDIT2: I'm also working mostly through this holiday weekend. I should be free later Monday.

If I launch it from their website it works but it won't launch when downloaded...

I have a copy of fantasy grounds 2 Ultimate, but I have no idea how to use it

I should be able to make Monday work. I could use a better idea of times, though. I will play around with character concepts (and leave the Defender role to taggart).

Also, my Steam name is wdf.SeattleMan and that should be the best way to reach if needed. I can help out with any rules questions for 4e, but know nothing of MapTool or similar programs.

Holy crap...I can't stop thinking of new combos for this game. Been paying around with a Warforged Waden with a focus in Stormheart. Changeling Bard looks cool to, as does a bullywug Assassin.

How do I create the character? I downloaded chartool, but I have no clue what I'm doing.

RUn it and go through each tab. You select class and race, followed by attribute allocation, feast and skills.

I highly suggest reading the players manual first and learning the basics. Once you know that, the builder should be pretty straight forward.

EDIT: Also make sure you grabbed character builder. FYI, the demo version looks a little old. I'm running a newer version which seems to have a few more choices. Nothing huge but FYI. It's still great for starting users. The only thing not included are some new PHB3 info and some other things more for advanced users/levels.

Well, I am not having as easy of a time picking things for my character as I thought that I would. I am split between:

• Longtooth TWF Ranger
• Halfling or Drow Storm Sorcerer
• Warden of some kind

Thoughts?

Also, I just realized today that I have a prior obligation Monday at 10EST/7PST, so I have to bail out then :(

You should be able to just attach it to a post. Click on Go Advanced at the bottom of this thread then the paper clip on the top to attach the zip file.

I just spent a couple hours familiarizing myself with MapTool and it looks like this could be a pretty damn solid little tool.

What I'd like to do is run everyone through a published adventure called Keep on the Shadowfell. If the lot of you have already run through this adventure I can find something else but if it's just one or two of you... keep any details to yourself and remember that your character doesn't know what you know. :D Likewise, if you're unfamiliar with this adventure, please don't go looking up details as you'll just spoil the fun for yourself!

If you guys would like, I can have Monday's session be a sort of training ground where we run through a small dungeon crawl that will last a few hours but get everyone familiar with the rules of D&D and the nuances of MapTool. If we do things this way and everyone is interested in going ahead with something that will take multiple sessions, then I'll set up the Shadowfell game and we'll take it from there.

I'm free all day Monday so if anyone is available to do this in the afternoon, that might work out for everyone. Please let me know what times are good for you on Monday and if you want to just jump into a long adventure or give it a test run with a quick dungeon crawl.

W\ent with earthheart beacuse it looks like more powers take advantage of it. Also choose thunder bonus as a feat since most of my powers have the thunder label in it. Plus 1 to all damage for powers with thunder in them!

I vote that monday be a training session. It'll give us time to familiarize ourselves with the Rules (I'm rusty and Tim is new), try out our characters before we start the new campaign (we may want to tweak after a quick run), and it could even act like a prologue on how our team first meet.

Sounds good since I am done before 7 PST / 10 EST. Now should I go Sorcerer or Ranger for my Striker?

Training session would be great. I started to mess around with the character creator and want to go with something that I normally don't do, which is a cleric type class. Dwarf will be my race, Longshanks will be my surname :D

Sounds like we have a defender and leader.
