Okay, this sucks. I've had to shut down both my rigs due to several power outages in the last couple of hours. I don't have UPS protection so everytime I lose power it all shuts down.We've had like 40mph winds all day and it's playing havoc with the power lines. These winds are supposed to continue for the next 3 days so just to be safe I'm probably gonna have to keep them shutdown for awhile. To compensate in the meantime, I'm setting up my laptop (xp 1800) to go 24/7. Hopefully won't fall too far behind! :( Time to invest in a UPS. On a lighter note my 2500+ comes tomorrow, hopefully it's of the unlocked variety.
Say hello to the latest SF member to sign up for F@h. I'll be running the system I have in my sig which isn't much but hey it's something right? What I really need is a hyper-threading P4 or a separate server computer to do this on.
One quick question: F@h doesn't require a broadband connection does it?

True, but only if the power stays out longer than the UPS supply which is not likely. Power here has never been off more than maybe 15 minutes. Usually only a few seconds to a minute but it's enough. A UPS would let me ride out all those short outages. I've just avoided dropping the dough on one till now.

P4's with Hyperthreading enabled will only show a usage of up to 50% of your CPU; however, with a HT enabled P4 you can run two instances of the console version of F@H to get the most out of your processor.
HT on and HT off will fold at the same speed with 1 instance
HT on with 2 instances increases production 15 - 20%. :)
Except it's not P4. It's dual P3 Coppermines.

I'm going to use xDUCK and Imayoda for this, I hope they don't mind. How can Imayoda have over 100 points more the xDUCK, but xDUCK has over 2x more WU's completed? I guess I'm just asking someone to explain the scoring system. Thanks:)
Either a] xDuck was getting smaller WU's say consistent 30 pointers and yoda was getting consistent 60 points b] xDuck had an unstable OC and was dropping WU's before they finished it does seem you get credit for a WU even if you don't finish it completely or get complete points c] a combo of a & b
Its the same reason my WU's are higher than say vertices when our scores are so close ATM. I dropped a good 8-12 WU's the day I was losing my PSU and running inadequate vcore
I turned of HT today - it seemed like my 2.6 laptop was folding faster than my 3.5 desktop. Task manager reported 50% use, 50% system idle.
Anybody else have this problem?

I work at school as a lab assistant or whatever and there are 24 computers in the lab. The machines are 2.6ghz p4s 512mb ram 80gb hdds. I work on monday-wed for 5-6 hours each day. Would it be worth me installing this and running it for 4-6 hours while im there. The computers are hardly ever in use when i am there. Would it be worth it for me to run it? Would it ever complete any of the WUs or whatever yall call it while im there? Another thing is they hagve the machines setup where every time you turn off the computer the machine defaults back to the way they have it setup so i would have to install it every time i got there which shouldnt take longer than 10 min for 5- 10 computers. Another thing is the machines only have user permisions. So i dont actaully think i could install the program. Is there something that could be done about that? If not i guess im just out of luck but worth a try for research :D.
