Both are pretty CPU sensitive but I didn't overclock the CPU. Even 05 is a little with the 8800.

I'm stumped as to why. I'm installing 05 and 03 now and will let you know how it goes for me after I get the 8800GTX in.

There might be some kind of conflict with my onboard video. I couldn't find a place to disable it in BIOS. Let me try in windows.

BTW it ran now at 650/1015. Weird. Thats almost 35k.

Its amazing how quiet this 8800GTX is. I can barely hear it even during high loads. Although at high loads the temps are like 80C.

Good to hear -- those coolers look very much like Artic Cooling made them and if so, will be very quiet and effective. Have to come across max operating temp? What's yours idle at?

Idle is around 60C and I've seen up to 81-82C. Someone else mentioned it possibly is a little high because the HS is just starting to get warm. Not to mention the fans never speed up.

I determined with my chilled water on the X1800XT it really isn't worth it with video unless your putting something like a cascade on it or your trying to make it more quiet. These cards just pump out way too much heat. It adds a lot to the water temp and the overclockability doesn't improve that much. I got practically nothing when I dropped the water down to -20C on my X1800XT (read about 5C idle and 20C load though). Also these cards certainly are made to take 80C as that what everyone gets with stock cooling.

I just finished replaying the Tomb Raider legend demo with next generation content and AA on @ 1920x1200 and it was very playable. FRAPS says somewhere around 35-120fps pretty much constent with an average probably in the 50's or 60's. The image quality even with like settings are amazingly in some instances. Even 2k6 looks a lot better. This is a very good card for enabling HDR and AA even at my native 1920x1200.

Thanks for the heads-up on temps; and those temps jibe with those I've been seeing on other forums. Can I assume you're using the stock cooling for now?

Well I ran my mouth about the 8800GTX and think I'll be doing a couple custom builds and an upgrade for some old customers -- I'll be busy! Of course I warned them that my build comes first :D

I just talked someone into 4 Dell precision workstations with x6800 chips. The specific app didn't take advantage of more than one core so I told them to get the Core2 with the highest clock speed.

My x1950XT is super quiet too with stock fan, I never hear the fan spin up.

I am tempted for an 8800, but will hold out :)

Maybe I will sit still... Since my board only support Crossfire not SLI :)

Those cares are quite sexy, but so is my little x1950xtx beast... One big mother she is :)

Stays cool too while game, around 60c, never hear the fan spinup or anything. Not like my x800 series :(

I've been snooping around and fouind out the 8800GTXs idle around 60C and up to 80C at max load :eek: Hope somebody comes out with a super-dooper cooler for them. The saving grace is that they run quiet, a good thing!

I just found fan control in ntune. It helps quite a bit. Thats why its quiet. It only goes up to about 675RPM unless you override. The max is around 1100RPM if you adjust to 100% on manual.

Yeah I seen that before... I have tried manual @ 100%... And wow is that stock heatsink loud....

I prefer Auto :) Does rather well. I wonder how warm does it have to hit before it does increase in speed.

I don't really care for sound when I'm going for benchmark maxes. Its only temporary. The temps did start dropping pretty quickly after setting 100%.

I think it just hit me. 01 does use the most CPU. I might be at a PSU limitation as the system reboots. Typically too high of GPU locks and too much memory artifacts.

I'm told my MB should ship no later than tomorrow. I might also look into getting a 700W Tagan. Its supposedly even supposed to handle dual 8800's fine ;)

Well, my second 8800GTX should get here around Wed or Thu and I'll let you know if the Antec 650W TriPower can handle both. I just installed and benched the first 8800GTX. All stock settings, 3DMark06 = 10362 I'll do 05 and 03 now and give you some scores for those too. Then we can proceed to OCing the 8800GTX. OK?

Thats insane as I'm questioning if my 535W Enermax can handle even 1 card when overclocked and stock CPU. I'm pretty possitive thats whats causing the reboots when both the CPU and GPU are used heavily. Thats the only thing that can explain 05/06 running fine but having to drop the GPU for 01/03.

CPU score matters. They have a ca
lculator over at XS. If I plug in my CPU score from the other MB with these ps2/ps3 scores I get over 12100.
