Well, if it picks up my changes, we'll have a compass. :D
It did, and north is where I said it was. ;)
Oh man, the new map exposes my secret base. If you choose to visit, take a boat from the docks and the entrance is beyond the dirt pillar in the side of the mound.
Wow, that google API map chews through bandwidth. (I have a 95th percentile 1Mbps connection, last 24 hours we've been holding around 1.35Mbps)
It might become a problem, I won't know for a few more days. If it does, I will be temporarily disabling it. I'd rather have no map then no server at all and a huge bill to pay off. :(
*Edit:Spoiler
I keep looking for the ruins of my "safe"house on the beach, but I guess that second creeper probably took out what remained of the walls after the first one because I can't see it anywhere and the path I was taking was in a pretty easily findable spot.
Marking a secret base with a dirt pillar? Amateur. ;)
Any of you guys using texture packs? The painterly one looks pretty good, any other recommendations?
Haven't tried a texture pack yet.
*Edit: Just tried the painterly pack. Wow, that's uhm... different. I couldn't figure out what was what anymore. lol I went back to the default for now.
I tried installing a texture pack once, and the game crashed. Turned out I needed to install an HD support patch first and at that point I lost interest.
If I do ever patch it will be so I can put in an actually clear glass skin instead of the default with those stupid lines on it.
Is the auto-refreshing map turned off or just not working?
I'm just as happy with a lower res plain overhead view if it helps the bandwidth.
The server broke. :(
p.s. Just the survival one, apparently. I get timed out on login every time. I can still get into creative map aka warzone. Some new holes and water streams all over the road from base to the skyscraper.
The large new section at the top (southeast) section of the map is due to me getting lost.
Still working on learning my east from my west. :(
If anyone wants a really huge snowy area to work in though, I found it. ;)
Tonight I learned that lava throws sparks that can set you on fire; I had never noticed even though I've worked a LOT with lava.
Unfortunately, this knowledge came about because I was set on fire while alt-tabbed away from the game, and thus had no time to put myself out. Lost a full compliment of diamond tools, my suit of armor, and 10 buckets. :(
According to minecraftwiki, the sparks won't set people or items on fire. From my own experience, it will at the very least cause the burning animation on items (e.g. workbench) that are nearby.
So, maybe a daytime creeper or spider found you?
I discovered that I screwed up and cut the grid lines in my city wrong.
Have to completely redo them, which is OK because it didn't take a super long time.
