The knock on the jets is they got rid of thomas jones, who had probably the best year of his career, for LDT who had his worst and they're similar ages. LT's contract is 5 million for 2 yrs, Jones woulda been 6 million this year with his bonus, I think it woulda been worth it based on his performance last season. It's an uncapped year, so this move doesn't make sense. LDT has 600 more total carries than jones despite him being younger, I think he's done, bad move.
Sure LDT is only going to play 10-15 snaps with Shonn Greene being the #1, but why not spend a little more and have someone capable with some mileage left. If shonne goes down you don't know if leon can handle the load. Though they may bdraft another RB or have someone else waiting in the wings, I don't know what other prospects at RB they haveare.
Jamarcus Russell weighs in at 290 lbs.
The probably makes him the fattest QB in NFL history, he's even fatter than Jared "Pillsbury Throwboy" Lorenzen.
I was going through the various football websites, and apparently Mcnabb is going to play for 14 teams next year.
I believe the thinking is Jones is not the kind of back who is effective in limited carries, he is a wear the defense pounder kind of back. Just not suited as a backup or change of pace guy. Where LT could maybe be better in a limited role. I think LT will have a mini resurgence, the Jets line can run block real good, and LT still has a nose for the endzone. Also, with a young QB the Jets run a lot of screen passes and dumpoffs, LT is a much better receiver than Jones.
Mcnabb to Wash? Wow...I am comletely socked they would trade him in the division. Wow.
I would pick Kolb over Vick any day. He's a solid QB.
You don't think Vick is a solid QB? The guy was a top 10 QB who killed dogs and went to jail. I don't think his skills have gotten that much worse. It's not like one of the dogs bit off his thumb or something.
He does not seem to have the elite speed he had before going to jail. Thats is what made him dangerous, not his Qb'ing ability. He is a one read and then run QB...and him running does not seem like as big a weapon as it was. He has never shown the ability to read a defense, make a quick decision and accurate throw. All needed to run a WCO. He is a solid backup and I am glad the Eagles have him. I think Vick package will be expanded this year and he will get 5-8 snaps a game consistantly. Toward the end of the season he was showing a lot of value in goal line situations.
I like Kolb, I think he has a chance to be very good. Skill wise reminds me of a bigger Garcia with a stronger arm, though not as strong as Mcnabbs. He is more athletic than people think, had 22 rushing TDs in college and has shown he can throw on the run from all different angles and body positions. he throws the ball and hits guys in stride, leading to tons of YAC. With all the speed on the Eagles offense (Jackson, Maclin, Mccoy), they should move the ball well. Accuracy was Mcnabbs weakness, he threw the ball right at guys instead of leading them. However, the Eagles will probably turn the ball over a lot more this season, something they are not used to with Mcnabb. He is one of the least intercepted QB's in football history.
The Eagles offense is very good and very young, it is the defense I am worried about. They now have weakness at safety, linebacker, right d-end, and since they traded Sheldon Brown they lost their best corner.
Ugh, why would they keep mcnabb in the division, sure the deadskins are not a good team and have no o-line, but why would you want them to have a good qb? Terrible move.
Snyder will spend the money to try to make them a contender with this small window
I think when making a move like this, you only look at your own team only and try to make it better.
I do think Shanahan could do pretty good with a guy like Mcnabb, who has a skill set a lot like Elway. Also, his offense with all the half and full roll outs and zone blocking schemes is probably the only system in the league that can consistanly succeed with a mediocre line. Should be a very interesting division. As of right now, Dallas is a little weaker having lost their left tackle, Washington is stronger with Mcnabb being many levels better than Jason Campbell. If the Giants new coordinator can fix the D they will be in the hunt, and Philly is a complete wildcard. This upcoming season the Easy could be even more competitive than ever. All 4 teams could legitimately go 12-4, or 6-10.
In his defense, if he lost half the speed he had before prison he would still be the fastest QB in the league by a fair margin. :D
I mean, the guy was a solid candidate for fastest player in the league at ANY position. He'll still be a ridiculously fast QB whether he's as fast as he was before or not. I think one reason why his running was so weak this past year, in addition to simply having been out of football for so long, is that EVERYBODY on the field knew he would be running the ball and that him passing was extremely unlikely. His speed made him a great runner, true, but it was enhanced by the fact that defenses were spread out by having to defend the pass; he may have been a one read and run QB, but he also had a freaking CANNON that could hit anybody on the field with the ball. Scrambling in that case is almost more similar to a punt return than an actual running play, imo, and the skillset is a bit different. He didn't seem to be all that great of a designed runner last year, and I don't think he'll really be all that effective as a 5-8 play QB, coming in only when he's 99% likely to run.
I'd still go with Kolb as the starter, personally, but with the thought in my mind that Vick will still be able to do things no one else can do and that he easily has the potential to be a starter in the future.
