i was thinking of getting a 3500 myself and holding off on an FX until the 90nm chips are released... but i think i would have to get 2700+ mhz out of it to make it better than my 2520mhz 754 since i have 1mb cache right now... and i don't know that it's worth the $700 that would cost... so now i'm thinking vcore mod or possibly switching to a via motherboard :)

Hey eshbach, I've got a chance to trade my KV8-MAX3 for an NF3 250 mobo.....so, what would be best for OCing? Needless to say, AGP/PCI locks are a must.;) Example of some I can find are :
MSI K8N Neo
Leadtek K8N
Gigabyte K8N Pro

Don't see any offerings from Shuttle, DFI (if any), Biostar:p , whatever...:D

Out of those, I'd get the MSI, and if you can, get the Epox 8KDA3+ (or its little brother).

Can't find anything on the Epox here :( , but I'm leaning towards the MSI one simply coz I've read that the board has no problem with the AGP/PCI locks.;)

Thats why I keep telling people to use win 2k, its 300 to 500 marks faster! Most of the top guys on the orb use win 2k, although a few have xp, if they had 2k they would have been first or 2nd place instead of like 7th! :eek: 500 marks isnt alot with a GT and when your already way over 20k to begin with. How much did disabling services help? It didnt seem to help me any :confused:
eshbash, dont upgrade yet, wait for 90nm to come. I am doing the same! and my a64 is slower than yours!

so using win2k would push me to 22K?

Just did a run at default speed on my 3000+/6800GT, scored 20.7k....is that low?:confused:

Is that with the MSI you where going to swap out
or the one in your sig?

Looks like it's the MSI. It says MS-7030 in mobo details. MS-xxxx are model numbers for all MSI motherboards

The MSI board I got turned out to be a dud.....it crashed not long after I ran '01. It'd become totally unstable, caused me a nite of grief.:mad: I'm having the board RMAed and am making arrangements to have it sold. Meantime, I've gotten an Abit KV8 Pro and A64 3400+ as replacements. I'm gonna be busy for a day or two putting my rig back together, will do a fresh benchmark after I know that everything's running well.;)

that and a good run will make 22k a definate possibility. gains of 300 to 500 marks have been reported by upgrading winxp to the faster win2k verson. a64s dont seem to take as much a loss with winblows xp and piss4's dont seem to even care. athlon xps take the biggest loss, ironic calling them athlon xps if they hate win xp.

not for win xp and ras-cas 3 ram. 3dmark 2001 is very cpu intensive, especially with fast video cards. Nature is all they gain unless their cpus are super fast.

you had a bad car low run with everyday services, I guess disabling services helps on that test the most. Not as much of a gain as I though, but still helps for the top spot ;)

you already have the kv8! :confused: that 3400+ newcastle will help you get higher MHz, but you may lose out on fsb. 220fsb is 2.64GHz, a hefty clock speed but good luck. You should get around 24k if your 3400+ newcastle overclocks well. Thats a pretty expensive cpu though

Sorry to hear about your board being a dud,looks like you
picked up a nice CPU upgrade although would be nice
if you had a board that locks.

locks do not matter with a 3400+ and its 12x multi. 220fsb will most likley be beyond the cpu's capability anyway
