If i was going to reformat my computer and i had a 2500 WU at 50% would it be possible for me to backup the files in the folder that it created and when i have finished reinstalling the os put the files back and start it back at 50%?

here's a screenshot

Just check your log file and see if it says extra sse boost at the start of the WU, it looks like you have it set up the way it should be.

i think i have it now
Yes, your all set, fold on.:)
Welcome back nice to hear everything went so well. As you can see the Folding Team has been racing during your absence. With your powers restored we're even more likely to crest the 5K a day plateau that we're close to now. We all figured something like this happened to ya. Seeing you pass me a second time will be better than the first.Quote:

Although I just came home and found that my net connection died out at my house right after I left requiring a reboot of my Cable UBR.
So half of my folders could not get a new WU for over a week.:(
Oh well, all is fine again now.:)
when i start up my computer i get this dos command thing that stays open and is like identical to my logfile...
https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/...2003/11/19.jpg
can i close that and still have the tweaked benefits? i'm sure i can and all but i just want to make sure
edit to add: oh yeah and is there a way to choose what kind of WU you get?
i want to get big ones like the 2500's for a computer that i'm like never at so i don't have to worry about signing online with it as often to send the results when it finishes
What has happened is you have gotten the console version instead of the graphic version, you might want to download and use the graphical version. Edit: you might want to wait until you finish the work order before doing this. AFSIK, you can`t choose which WU`s you get.
That appears to be the actual program running the folding.. So closing that will stop the folding process :)Quote:

I believe when you install F@H it places a shortcut in startup.. That you want to either remove or edit.. Since it will NOT have the command switches (if that is not the one you had edited)
i have and am using the normal version with the graphics and all but the prompt thing pops up when i start my computer becuase i put the 4.0beta thing in my startup folder.Quote:

and it does continue to fold when i close the prompt thing i was just wondering if it was still tweaked for my amd :) which i think it is
however... i do have the console version of the 4.0 beta... wow, i'm confused
no you cannont close that. That is the part that is doing all the work.Quote:

here's my startup folder
http://deadball38.com/stuff/start.JPG
So you have both 3.24 and 4.00 running... So you are splitting your processor between the two... So remove the startup for which ever one you dont want to use :D Either keep the console or keep the GUI...
3.24 and beta 4 are displaying the same protein. Since you have an AMD cpu you're not sharing half and half like you could with a HT P4. I'd get one out of your startup folder leaving only one. Since you have an AMD 3.24 will not allow SSE. Keep the beta v4. If you want the GUI there's a betav4 of that too.
Hey thanx saps.:)Quote:

Yeah I'll be pushing to get it going on even more machines.:) We'll crack that 5K a day in no time.:)
okay i downloaded the 4.0beta GUI, should i uninstall what i have now and put this one to work?
Wait till your WU finishes of course but sure
Hey Saps, I haven't been watching real closely -- should I be running the 4.0 beta on my P4? Now would be a good time to switch, just finished a unit. Regards . . .Quote:

my .02 is: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." :D as long as you're getting the SSE boost and gromacs, you might as well stick with what's working.Quote:

BTW does anyone know if i format and save my current WU that is 60% done to a zip drive (just save the folder that F@H is running in) would i have a problem when i reinstalled the os and put the folder back would it still be at 60% or would it start all over?
How so?Quote:

When I had F@H & SETI running on a P4 without HT... They split the processing power 50/50... So why wouldnt an AMD be the same?
Now if it is processing the same WU.. Then I am not sure what will happen :D
EDIT:
I upgraded my client and did a whole lot of changes to it.. While I was in the middle of a WU and it just restarted where I had left off... It never went back to zero.. But dont hold me to it since there are so many different variables :D

I'm 100% with serotone9 on this one. I am still on 3.25. beta 4 isn't worse or slower that's for sure. [H] had a thread where they concluded 4 was 2.86% faster than 3.25. This I would call unsubstantiated though. Most people notice no difference and if there is a difference its very small. Still if confirmation could be established that beta 4 was even 2-3%faster then I'd switch myselfQuote:

I made no reference to SETI. F@H on an AMD machine is only capable of running 1 WU/Protein at a time. It is possible to run the console and the GUI concurrently but they will be displaying the exact same protein and process so there is not much point to it. The only opportunity to run multiple F@H WU/Proteins on a single cpu is to HT them.Quote:

Now it is quite possible to run F@H and SETI concurrently on a single AMD cpu that's true but that's not the issue |_053|2 is dealing with
Our team is already doing 3,200-4,500 a day.Quote:
