You and Kaaos are exactly right. Last night I decided to do some 3DFX research and came across this subject and it turns out 3DFX was having problems but they would have easily been in the game if it wasn't for that patent lawsuit over the summer that sealed there fate. It wasn't just a few million but in the hundred millions and plus with the Rampage project eatting up 50% of there money they couldn't take the hit thanks to the jerks at Nvidia.

Yeah, I thought it was like that. Killing the competition. If those lawsuits never went ahead then it is quite possible that 3DFX would still be around right now. However, I understand that 3DFX were the first ones to start the lawsuits rolling anyhow, claiming that Nvidia had breached a patent on technology developed at 3DFX. THEN, Nvidia turned around and did basically the same thing to 3DFX. So the way I see it, The whole deal cost us the next generation of technology that 3DFX had. Only now have we caught up to what 3DFX might have been able to offer. Just remember that when you start saying how great Nvidia is.
