i went down from a 1.7 Willamette and bought a 1.6A

never been please about a CPU like this in my life.


and the 1.6A @ 2.4 will outperform the 2.2 offcourse and the 2.4 GHz. if they were at stock speeds since they run at very high FSBs :D

go grab ur self a 1.6A m8 :) along with a good mobo + quality RDRAM. very cheap setup.

Nope, I'm going to stick with my DDR. I want to see how high of an OC I can get with my P4S333. I actually intended to pair it with an NW, but I didn't know that Willys were made in this skt. So, I accidentally ended up getting a Willy. :(

Anyhow, I have $60. I'm thinking about saving for the 1.6a (which I could most likely have in the mail by next week. :p )

well that isn't a bad option either.....u can get ur self an awesome setup for just about $125-$140 which is the price of the Northwood 1.6A

plus.. you could sell that Willamette POS like i did.....i didn't have to pay one penny for my upgrade.....sold my stuff to a fool :)

Has anyone seen or tried the Asus P4S533 yet? It has the SiS 645DX which, according to Tom's Hardware is the fastest chipset available for the P4. It's even faster than the 850 chipset.

a guy called ManojM who i know (has the fastest computer on the forum i used to go to P4 2.4 @ 2.9) has tested that motherboard.

he said that it is indeed a very good board. and is faster than the i845 chipset. But still an i850 + RDRAM is the fastest choice for a P4 system. ESPECIALLY if you are running the memory at 1066 MHz. like i am now :)

Personally, I prefer flexibility over peak performance. RDRAM has to be installed in pairs, but DDR does not. Hence, it's easier to make RAM upgrades in the future.

Hey man you can't go wrong witht the 1.6a thats what I have and mine is running at 2.512ghz at 1.65 volts on stock cooling. I can take this chip to the max fsb this board allows which is 166fsb which puts me at 2.655ghz with 1.75 volts (have to wire wrap the cpu to the voltage that high). I cant stay at 166 fsb because with stock cooling my temps go all the way up to 62c under load. So I am waiting for a better cooler to come in. Good luck

Actually memory upgrades is much easier with rdram as you can go and buy any memory sticks and they will work with older rimms well. With DDR-sdram you should use identical memory modules if planning use more than just one stick, with two different brand memory modules system won't necessary be stable. It's very well known DDR-problem and is even dokumented in viaarena support page as very high possibility to make infinite loop.

Actually memory upgrading is only easy with memory types that are well specified and well tested, with memories like DDR-sdram mixing differend kind of memory modules usually makes just very unstable platform.

And I really can't understand what's the problem to get two memory modules instead one, can't be too hard to count two when getting new memory :D

None of the 533 board are out yet. From everything I've heard, I believe we will see them in May.

dammit! I had my 1.6 at 2448 Mhz with 1.7 volts. Thats 153 FSB. Everything ran stable. Prime95 fine, benchmark, fine... But when I went to play CS and Serious Sam 2 they would both crash after about an hour. I'm actually wondering if it's a windows problem and not OC related. But I don't have nuff OCing exp to know :(. I'm pretty lazy with windows too, not caring about keeping it clean besides defragging.

But I have got my 3dMark score here. 10324

hell, i didn't even think of that. who gives a damn? buy a pair or buy one? i want the best performance...and RDRAM prices have gone down to a reasonable price IMO.:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Hmm, most DDR RAM motherboards have 3 slots so you have 3 chances to upgrade, but RDRAM has effectively 2 slots (because you have to install in pairs) so you only have 2 chances to upgrade before throwing away old memory modules.

sorry man...i either am too stupid or i really don't see how big of an advantage this is....
