Pretty much, but i more mean that debating whether you should follow a law or not is only a moral issue.

I dont mean that people shouldnt worry about being caught, but that for the purposes of discussion theres not much to talk about there.

What other reasons do you see besides those three i listed?

Using that logic one shouldnt download anything unless they mean to buy it, including demo's... i mean if someone wasnt going to buy it why would that person have downloaded it in the first place?

They are trying to make it illegal in canada, but so far the judge says its like going to the library.

Colosus, people like you are so p*ssy whipped with the threat of going to jail in america you really are clueless. There are degrees of seriousness to crimes. piracy is not theft, well not a serious theft anyway. I would say its a lot closer to video taping television shows to robbing a bank. But anal retentive preachers think differant. pfft.. if i found a bag of money i wouldnt hand it in either what a crook i am. You all should check out suprnova forums, there are more posts in one day then 6 months here so I know I cant be alone in this.

That's some really intelligent judges you have there. The library still purchased the book. They didn't download and print it up. The publisher and writer still got paid for their work.

The person who cracked the game also bought it. The publisher got paid.
The writer only got paid once for that book, and got nothing for the hunderds of times its borrowed out.

Freddy, just a bit of cursory research shows Canada does indeed have some strong copyright protection laws in place, which apply to software.

Sure, we are one of the most law abiding nations on earth. We didnt tget that way by throwing millions of people in joil either. I think their is a common sense that prevails here. In america you can get 25 years for stealing pizza slice or tommy chong (a canadian) can get 8 months for having a bong. Crap like that dont happen here and our streets are far safer than anything in usa.
Sharing software, and making copies to sell, are viewed differently up here. So Far *crosses fingers.

Plus we will be able to grow dope legally like in holland soon. :) If I grow dope before its legal does that make me immoral? if I wait till it is legal, as it should be, does that make me moral? or since its only a candian law and still illegal in the states, does it still make me immoral?

As much as that doesn't really make sense, I'll try and respond.

In the US, software piracy is considered a serious theft, the penalties for it if you get caught are huge.

I don't think Freddy has a good grasp on Canadian intellectual property laws, if they were non-existant like he thinks, no one would bother trying to sell anything since it would be legal to steal it.

you know what, there are millions of laws, mostly written by interest groups that mean almost nothing. I never read that link u put up but... I'm guessing it would be more designed to stop me from say, starting a publishing company and reprinting all otf stephen kings books and making money of it. Or to stop me from reprducing cds and musics to sell as my own.

If it does say, Sharing games is illegal, it certainly isnt being enforced.
