I've been out on the CPU specs, but is what I understand. The Amd 64 isn't really 1600 per se. Like the Pentium 4 at 800 (the desktop version). Because the Pentium 4 use quad technology, it's actually 200 x4. So the real FSB is 200. The pentium M (Dothan) 533 (133x 4). I don't know the math for the Amd64, but just divide it to know the real FSB.Quote:

I bought the Latitude with a sole reason, want a laptop to last me a long time, gaming was not a priority. Latitude are the business models offered from Dell, like Evo from Hp/Compaq. I did buy the Latitude with the best gaming card in that moment (3 months ago).Quote:

I wish you could see me kicking myself. You would laugh. I wish I would have talked to you guys sooner. I can't believe I bought onboard graphics. I saw a brand name, and didn't know much about laptop graphics, so I thought "why not?". I should have gotten a lattitude, w/ the centrino and x600. I might have even been able to get a discount through my school.
Really, you should see my foot in my mouth, I didn't know I could fit so much of it in.

The AMD64 has an 800Mhz FSB, the Pentium-m a 533Mhz. You can't judge a processor by numbers like that, the Pentium-m has a short pipeline, a high IPC and a massive amount of low latency cache so it doesn't rely on high bandwidth or a high FSB. Also, the Pentium-m 1.7ghz is one of the lower processors in the range (there are also three versions of it), the Pentium-m's go higher than that.Quote:

Personally I wouldn't go fo an X600 based machine now (since you can't upgrade them), my 9600 pro turbo (same card, just lower clocked pretty much) has been a great little card but it's really showing its age on new games.

I own an Emachines M6805. AMD Athlon 64, ATI64. I have had it for over a year and sent it back 4 times for repair until they got it right. No problems for at least 4 months, good thing to because the warranty has expired.
Anyhow, now that the warranty has expired I have upgraded the ram to 2GIG and installed the trial version of Windows XP64. All the 64bit drivers were easily found on the web. Only the ATI 64bit driver needed tweeking so XP would recognize it.
Is It Fast? YES IT IS.
I'm currently reliving the FarCry game with the 64bit upgrade patch. It works great on the second from highes video settings but has a very slight lag in sound. All other programs work without a hitch.
As u may know Emachines merged with Gateway. If you want a 64 bit machine check all over the net for driver update and product forums because not all manufacturers support XP64 eventhough it has the proper cpu.
The RAM upgrade wa not easy because I had to open the case to replace the second stick. Two 1 GIG (Crucial) were recognized by the bios without any action on my part.
Windows is offering a free 64bit os for a 120 or 360 day trial. I installed it, it worked, I added the video, sound, and other drivers and never looked back.
Now I'm Happy

The cpu is an AMD Athlon 64 3000 (1.8 GHz). The Graphics are intagrated into the MB using an ATI 64meg (dedicated vram) Radeon 6400 Mobility chip.
Service is the biggest drawback, there was never any question asked when I called about a problem and they quickly issued an RMA. Turnaround time was always fast, usually within a week with all prepaid shipping. It just took 4 times to get some little things right.
Again all drivers were easily located when upgrading to XP64 which is available over for purchase in most major internet stores, not retail yet. I'd download an try the free version first to make sure all the bugs are worked out.
