Yeah, Ottawa brings plenty of firepower but it really surprises me that they are playing so well defensively. To smack Buffalo down like this is impressive, I thought it would be much closer.
imo if Detroit wants to get by Anaheim, they need to finish them off as quickly as possible. Big, tough teams like the ducks can pull off the series win if it becomes a war of attrition.
Special teams play (especially short handed goals) is easier to correct than 5 on 5 play I think. If Anaheim can bring Detroit's powerplay down to more reasonable numbers (I mean reasonable... not shutouts) AND at the same time bring their own powerplay up to reasonable numbers (and Anaheim does have the potential to field a deadly powerplay) then Detroit will be in trouble.Quote:

I am surprised with the Ott-Buff series. I had thought that it would go 7. But the Sabres looked whipped psychologically. And that's usually all it wrote.
Basically, these are two very similar teams that played last year where Buff won in 7.
Both teams lost some players in the offseason, and I thought that Ott's were a lot more significant losses (Chara and Hossa... both VERY good players). Buff lost JP Dumont and Grier, but also added Spacek (what I thought was a significant "add").
In fact, I thought it was Buff's year this year. They lost in 7 to the eventual Stanley Cup champs... and the whole series they were without their top 4 defensemen (all injured). Now I ask you this... which team in the league can lose their top 4 defensemen and still even compete?!? Frankly, I thought that it was amazing that Buffalo took Carolina to 7. We can only speculate, but had Buff had their top 4 D-Men for that series, I think that they would have beat Carolina. Maybe even easily.
I'm now thinking Ott and Anaheim in the finals. And I have no clue who wins that. But watching Ott play is starting to give me the feeling that it is finally their turn... maybe destiny.

It's really sad that teams getting blown out just resort to playing dirty. Now I'm just worrying about more injuries from the Ducks playing stupid. And real classy Anaheim, fans cheering while Homer is on the ice, bleeding and almost knocked out....real classy....I thought we eliminated Calgary awhile ago.

Real solid game by the Dominator after last game's botched ending. Finally, the whole team played well, points spread around to many. Holmstrom is just a machine, I'm glad he's alright.

I expected Buff just to roll over and die last night. They came out with gusto jumping out to a 3-0 lead... which they then just about blow.
I think that Buff will still lose the series... but I wonder if they will at least make it respectable?
And it will be interesting to see how Anaheim does tonight without Pronger. Det has an opportunity to take a strangle hold on the series.
And after I talk about Det winning games based off nothing but special teams, they go on to score 5 even strength goals... LOL!

yeah it was pretty bad. Holstrom was already being he by Rob Niedermeyer and Pronger comes in from behind and checks him into the boards and it looked like he got an elbow up too.
When I first saw it at regular speed, I didn't think it looked too bad. It certainly wasn't as blatant as Claude Lemieux boarding Kris Draper into the boards headfirst.Quote:

But I also don't know that Pronger intended it. I think that it was getting caught up in the game, and that it happened so fast. And maybe even that Pronger is such a tall guy to begin with. And he also had Niedermyer's momentum pushing Holmstrom into the boards as well.
I have never really considered Pronger a dirty player.
At least they didn't go overboard with the suspension. One game seems right for a serious boarding without clear intent to injure.
