Whether it fell off in transit or not, I don't know but I once bought a comlete Celeron comp. in an online auction. When it arrived, it rattled so much I opened it up to find the hsf lying on the bottom of the tower.

Haven't had any problems with HSF fell off since I bought my first computer in 1988. In defense of AMD though, if more HS company would take the advantage of the 4 holes around the CPU, and the motherboard company would not put too many resistors and stuffs near the CPU, the problem with HS falling off would be taken care off once and for all.So if AMD does not address thermoprotection directly as well as Intel has, at least they provide a way to secure the HS that make it almost impossible to fall off.
