yeah, once i cleaned out all of the tweaks and everything i could reload the drivers (it got to the point where i couldn't even reload OLDER versions of the detonators :eek: ). at that point, though, i figured 23.11 worked well enough for me, and i didn't feel like wasting another hour or so wrestling with the det40's. besides, it's the latest driver set i have on hand that doesn't have nview included; i hate going through the hassle of disabling it with the 27.xx and higher detonators.

Ouch, if I do get the ti4600 I guess I'll luck out, since I'm going to reformat anyway.

I OCed my card using Riva Tuner, I just had to use "low level hardware overclocking" instead of driver level overclocking :( Still works though.

Can anyone take some snapshots and compare the IQ to old drivers to see if nVidia is doing anything sneaky?? It just seems like it is too easy for nVidia to just build in lower LOD into the drivers to up their scores on benchmarks... This is really making me reconsider buying a Ti4200...

Wow this is cool, added speed for free. My Ti has only a 526 Mhz memory speed and I managed to get 11,604 marks.


This went up from 10,8xx, about 800 points. Go Nvidia. I have to see how the games perform now.

I just ran the benchmark at 1152x864 my default resolution for my 21"

And I got 10,655 3d marks @ 1152

OOPS ok the score dropped 1000 points by going to 1152.

Very nice drivers. I got only about a 100 more though, so I'll try 3dmark a few more times but these rock. Everything is so much better than the 29.42's that I was using earlier, sharper text, textures, games are faster (NWN, Morrowind, etc).

These drivers are a dream come true for my GF4 Ti4200. I'm very happy with it now. :)

Amen to that, I dont think my score of 11k plus is bad with a Ti 4200 mixed with a Tbird 1400 and PC2100 ram :)

Nvidia still hasn't released win98 drivers yet. They must think that thier largest installed base runs xp, since before they always released win98 concurrently with xp. Major dissappointment.:(

In case you haven't passed by our Detonator 40 message thread, the default setting of "0" in the Direct3D anisotropic texture setting utilizes point sampling. You'll probably want to avoid this setting since the texture quality isn't very good. 3DCenter has posted a brief article on the subject. Here's a tranlated link, but the most important parts don't need translation.

MikeC: This, and other options, have been in RivaTuner for some time. However, I see that Utter mentions the drivers don't appear to have an option to let an application determine the level of texture filtering.

Well let's see....either you need to go get a Ti4600, or read this thread, because my experience with these drivers is that they give you a great 3DMark score, with a big sacrifice in IQ. Now I wouldn't exactly call that a "holding back on purpose." ;)

it really makes me wonder though, why always such a BIG improvement just after the release of a better card from a competitor.

If such a big increase is possible with newer drivers doesn't this mean that the previous drivers sucked , so nvidia drivers aren't so good after all ?

Look at previous drivers, sometimes a bit better, sometimes a bit worse, but when there's a better card...Much better??

Why would they even make such improvements in performance in a new driver set if the best card at the moment from a competitor is slower ?

I notice no diffrence in IQ between these drivers and the 30.82's, and the 30.82's were best as far as IQ went for me. I don't see what people are talking, I still think we need side by side screenies, it's pretty hard to tell the diff in IQ when you cant compare the two side by side.

Using nVidia's menu (not rivatuner or something else), set it to 8x aniso and compare it to 4x, you will see that 8x actually sets it to something lower than 4x aniso.

There are a lot of people complaining about lower IQ. I don't have a card so I can't see it first hand... but usually when this many people on so many different sites report the same thing... it is true. I did hear that Aniso getting set to 0 by default only happened if you didn't do a clean install... but can't confirm.

I dont know whats going on with you guys, but with my Ti 4200 I am seeing no loss in IQ.

Damnit, am I going to have to be the one to reinstall the old damn drivers to compare? :eek: :rolleyes:

I wasn't readily agreeing with the people who said that the IQ was decreased. But if you agree with the people who say that (I tend to believe what you say), I guess it's cheating on Nvidia's part.

Help improve preformance.

P4 owners are seeing a proportionally greater increase on average than AXP owners. That extra FSB bandwidth is no doubt a critical factor.

I haven't read the whole thread..so sorry if I skipped over this part...but...does anyone have any benchmarks for games? I'm sorry but I hardly run 3dmark at all because I could really care less about it and 3dmark gets boring after 5 minutes but anyways...does anyone have some before and after benchies? because I mean 1000 points gained in 3dmark means that theres gotta be some performance gains in games...but from what I saw at www.vr-zone.com they only got a 7 fps increase in 1 game at best with the rest only getting 1-2 fps increase (and 1 decreased)...I'm not trying to start anything but I'm just wondering if any of you guys got different results...
