Once again, all I'm saying is that for SOME people, the difference in the satellites of the Gigas vs. the Ultras may be more important than the difference in the subs. Even if the difference in the subs is greater than the difference in the sats, it does not matter if the music that the person is listening to does not have very deep bass. Yes, we know the organ can play down to 16hz. But how many jazz albums, or blues, or many other types of music use the organ?
There is nothing wrong with people liking the product that they purchased or telling people how much they like it. There IS something wrong with telling other people that one system is far better than another hands down simply because of their own subjective opinion.
Swerv, I have only listened to the Ultras at Best Buy and it sounded like crap (to no fault of the Ultras). I'm basing my opinion on my experience with the original PM 5.1s, theEAr's review, and other reviews I've read. I'd love to audition the the Ultras at home, but I'm pretty much done buying MM systems.
Well, do you guys think that the Gigaworks are good for music like APC and Tool?
Yes. APC and Tool's music doesn't rely on the sub to produce great sound, unlike rap. I think the Giga's satellites would absolutely shine. Granted, some songs like Reflection, The Package, and pretty much every Tool song with Danny's insane double bass could possibly sound better on the Ultra's (because of the sub), but like someone mentioned before, the sub doesn't produce the entire song.Quote:

Yeah, I think you can blame this on the encoding of the MP3's, and the fact that hey...these aren't HT subs. It's a $400 MM system, you can't ask for to much. I've noticed in some songs like The Grudge, at the very end, Danny is drumming so fast that it seems like the speakers are having a tough time keeping up.Quote:

Well then I think this topic has taken a turn to the Gigas because I don't listen to ANY rap at all! I have an oppertunity to hear the gigas at a friends house (he just told me on msn now that he has them coming tomorrow!) and I will listen to some APC and Tool there and get back to you guys!Quote:

I don't have any of the CD's aren't I a bastard, all MP3's. I need to buy all the APC and Tool CDs still. That's something I want to do. Do you know of any online stores that have ALL cd's from both groups?

actually ive read it is a very good camera to learn photography on. its a very nice little camera, but i would say its equivalent to the Z640s of the multimedia speaker world :)
been considering the ultras/gigas for some time now. might end up learning to play the guitar as well, and not sure which would be better to jam with :D
i listen to a lot of jazz, and i think the gigas would be better for me, despite what ive heard about the ultras "improved smoothness". i enjoy bass a lot, but the gigas seem better from my reading.

i listened to the ultras vs gigas again this weekend, and i think i perfer the sound of horns in jazz. we busted out the ffx soundtrack , and i really loved the orchestrated piano theme on the gigas. they sounded AMAXING. the solo flute was just outstanding.
I definately thought the gigas had the upper edge for classical music, putting my personal taste for the horns aside. Most people would think they sound better for classical/ vocals and acoustic music ( i would also throw in heavy ( the one genre I do not appreciate with on the ultra sats horns) but all genres are welcome.
Personally I prefer the sound of the horns for classical music mainly for the brass instruments - they have that sparkle like you're right there. A very vivid and detailed projection. Jazz music I also enjoyed equally on both systems each one had its pluses and minuses. ( i liked the string bass on the ultra sats quite a bit but prefered the vocals on the gigaworks better and more natural sounding overall )
Note that I was suprized but the gigaworks had a more forward treble and high end than the ultra sats despite having a micro horn.

To think of it, Cambridge makes very elegant sound (good word) the treble on the FPs1000 owns my Sony Mini component Hifi!

what? ooh...my comment about ffx soundtrack. it was only one track. the solo flute was awesome - and i thought it was awesome on the ultras! i still stand firm on the ultras being a better overall system though. :) i especially don't mind the unmatched low end that the ultras can put out with our favorite composer's music. :)Quote:

Well if the treble is better than the fps1000 on Ultras i will be happy. Lets not get me hasty and turn to Gigas which are very nice, I think I would love them.
I really hope i can enjoy Acoustic guitar, Piano and Flute, some of my favorite soothing instruments. Please tell me Ultras can soothe the reluctant heart..
I keep hearing that Gigas is better on acoustic natural instruments..Hopefully ultras will do the same

do you have any of the soundtracks ripped at 320? if you do, PLEASE send it my way. i had ff7 and a few others on cd a whiles back, but i lost them when i moved. :(

Are the speaker wires on the Giga's upgradeable?? Until the day arrives when speakers ship with decent speaker wire, (not this 20 gauge crap) I'll continue to upgrade the wire whenever possible.
Im not gonna jump on the Giga vs. Ultra topic yet, because I haven't listened to both sets enough to make an honest judgement of which is better...but Im sure most people would be more than happy with either.

Yah, u just need some soldering skills to put a phono jack on one end to hook to the sub. They come with 18 guage copper wire, but since i had the 16 left over from my former ultras, I went to Ratshack, bought 5 male gold RCA Style connectors, soldered them on and have been using them since. They should be able to take 14 guage easily, i'll see if they can take 12g wire on friday or the weekend, i have some around the house. Btw im using S700's
