I like the IKEA desk as well soup -- and buying from them is an excellent way to support good and decent in this country (as opposed to buying from the Mal-Wart chain type stores). AFAIK -- IKEA is "still" privately owned and operated - a true american dream, success story (no, i don't know all of the company's history specifics)...but going public (IPO) and trading stock always corrupts a company.

Thanks for the compliments on the Jerker Ikea desk. I love how sturdy and modular it it is. Not to mention how stylish and modern it looks. This is my second Jerker desk. (I have the first gen which has a larger top shelf and two pull out shelves on the bottom) In this price range, I think is this the best quality desk you can get. (Office Depot/Staples will cost twice as much and are often lower quality) I can't believe how low some of the prices at Ikea are for the quality that you get. They come with a 10 year warranty. Highly recommended.:)

It's not "solid wood" because 1"+ thick MDF is much less resonant than the equivalent thickness of hardwood. So, most speaker mfg's use MDF instead of solid wood for their cabinets. Believe me - if REL saw a sonic improvement with wood cabs over MDF, they'd be using it.
Yes, the Stentor III looks very mild-mannered and buttoned-down with the fancy veneers and glass top, but once you hear what it can do you'll kick yourself for not buying one years ago. It's that good - the definition of "an iron fist in a velvet glove".

I use MDF for display cases for commercial applications such as clothing stores, etc. It takes paint and laquer really well. Hey I4 - I actually didn't pay the full retail for that sub, I got it new for $4200. Yes, it's somewhat of a ridiculous price just to listen to music, but then I don't have to tell most of the regulars on Sharky about laying down big zoot for electronic wonder toys. ;)

David9799, the colors on the Dell are really vibrant but they don't have that 3D/gloss/deep black effect like Xbrite screens do. I've always liked how Xbrite screens look but I don't think I could deal with all the reflection. (they seem to reflect more than CRT screens) The Dell doesn't seem to have one of those "purple" anti reflective coatings but there is no glare/reflection due to the matte screen.

Loud; but sweet and warm - smooth distortion via 'even' harmonics (all tube Amps for guitars), no white noise type 'odd' harmonics. Older vintage equipment is a must for this though- but they've been making much re-vintaged stuff as a good secondary choice. I've used Hiwatt amps but didn't really like 'em too much compared to Marshalls - but helluva lot better than Fenders....rememeber, I'm going back some years ago - I've heard, and then tried/tested Mesa Boogies when they first came out, and man they sucked then (as far as tonal quality) - even though they were "well made" amongst a sea of available junk at that time.
For me - I'm self-taught; "All done by ear" - but many methods can help , and while one requires a musical ear to be able to be good at an instrument, one can use many means (tablature/books/classes - just jammin' ;) ) in helping to teach themselves how to play/practice
Yeah I4, playing is definitely theraputic. I'm a drummer originally and still am, but always wanted to take up the bass. (Seems I can never get enough of the freq's below 80Hz. :confused: :D) Played bass in my uncle's country band for a little, until they kicked me off! LOL!
But the last band I had was me, a guitar/singer and a bass (Washburn acoustic BTW). We did alright doing heavy Chicago-type blues (Son Seals, Buddy Guy), and had quite a few of our own tunes written. One of our crowd faves was one called "Ragtop Automobile". :) We were pretty proud of that one, and it would always go into an improv groove and last 8 or 9 minutes.
Drum-wise, it's nothin' but Tama StarClassics and Paiste for me, DW hardware and Pearl Eliminator kick pedals.
