Empire at War is infinitely better than the "skin-on-age-of-empires" Battlegrounds. They simplified and streamlined it a bit. But honestly, that's not that bad. Made it feel more realistic. (I.e. money makes the world go 'round.)

When I played Empire at War, I got steamrolled by the AI. That game is hard.
today they have SW: battlefront 2. are there many people still playing this? seeing as how it's pretty much MP, there's not much point in getting it if there's like 10 servers w/ nobody on it.
I just noticed they finally put Monkey Island 1 and 2 on sale for 7 bucks for both. Here's the link.

Agreed.
Galactic Battlegrounds was garbage, plain and simple.
Empire at War at least made an attempt at strategy, although the ground battles are a pure afterthought. Absolutely no strategy involved.
Still a reasonable effort all-around, the space battles are nice, and although very simplistic, the grand strategy map was entertaining.
I think my favorite part of all of the campaigns (including the FoC expansion) is the "sabotage" era. You've built up this huge army and network of planets, but on the turn of a dime in the storyline, you lose about half of them, and have to claw your way back. it's awesome.
Ground battles are simple regular troops/explosive troops (plex soldiers, grenadiers, etc.) ad nauseum. There is very little reason to use vehicles, etc.
OK my steam name is Learux
