Cache seems to be more important on the A64 core because the integrated memory controller relieves some of the need for high memory bandwidth and therefore DC. I'm not saying DC doesn't help, just not that much, unless of course your friend will want to do rendering heavily.
yes, the XP-120 should fit on the DFI.
I would reccommend a 3700 and DFI LANParty UT... basically look at mikead_99's CPU/MOBO config, as he did it right.
RAM will be a fun decision too :D
I would've said the 3700+ too, but he said he had a 400 dollar budget for the 3700+ and its 490 I believe.
