The VGA silencer is a great cooler and will definately help your clocks if you want something pre-made.

I removed the stock heatsink but theres still this back mounting plate that wont come off. I havent tried hard, gonna ask the previous owner if he used thermal tape or epoxy. If epoxy I may return the card to him or slap the stock heatsink back on and ebay it as a stock 9800p cause the silencer must have a clear, unobstured back. This card has ramsinks too, does this get in the way of the silencer? if so then even removing the back plate arent gonna help I will only keep the card if I can get 450/380 100% artifact free for my 24/7 gaming else I might as well use my 9700 as a primary gaming card and slap the silencer on that instead.

those things will get in the way of the silencer but you could still put a nice Athlon XP heatsink on there. That's a fairly good clocking card, I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

anyway is there truth that 2x256 is 100-130 slower than 2x512 cause that was the case for me but I get much higher fsb with 2x256 so no choice.

well i can't see the link, so i can't really tell you what the problem is.

but i generally bench on 1x256 or 2x256. 2x512 is a little better, but the extra bandwidth of running 256 at a higher bus more than makes up for it, at least for me.

OPP is running 2x512VX these days... that just may be the best way to do it.

mikey, these hopefully aren't finished product, so I'm not going to post the whole update format for these yet. If I blow something up in the next week or two I'll make these real updates, for now I just want to share. :)

Popped a 101k+ off in aquamark tonight too. 'nother milestone for me. This gpu is pretty amazing, breaking 700 MHz with just water and 1.7V, the mem clocks look outrageous, but the timings are a bit slack so it's really not all that. With luck I should have a prommie on the card tomorrow, so more informal updates to come, and then I'll get the cpu real cold next weekend. Let's hope I don't have the 3.3GHz Win2k bug....I kinda wonder about that now....could just be the cpu hating more then 1.85V though too.

@ Thunderbird1GHz: I'm not sure how this scales, but I can tell you that at 250x13 2x256 vs 2x512 with damn near identical timings is worth about 200 points on the nose. It seemed like I picked up more like 300 points on my s754 Epox (DFI didn't support interleave at the time).

Thanks though guys, I feel like I got a monkey off my back. No targets atm now that I've crossed that, just looking for as much as possible as I keep going. Hope for 42k after dry ice and phased gpu, but I'm not putting the pressure on myself to hit that like I did for 40k. :)
