My ring of fire is actually on fire again, as are the top of the towers on the side of the barn. :)

The portal (in the top level of the big building with the columns next to monroeski mine) ended up going to a spot in the nether at level 33, (way below where the overworld portal is) which happens to be essentially a very very large underground cavern. There are ghasts there, but not nearly so many as there are farther up in the nether. :cool:

Also, I tried some nether mapping on my own...I'm not sure there is any good way to do it, because the top is not open to the sky, it's just covered with more netherrack and bedrock (in the same multi-layer-thick-bedrock way that the bottom of the map is). The overworld map is still working fine.

And as another heads up, 1.6.6 is supposed to be out later this week, and then a long gap before the release of 1.7.

He's mentioned that he wants to have a mode that gives the players a purpose, with dungeons and enemies and dragons and craziness. Adventure might be that mode.

Once I finish this, I'm never touching this game again.

Turns out there's a bug where you can, apparently at random, lose the ability to walk. Guess whose gotten hit with it twice during the last fight?

Not sure how this works. I play on you server for minecraft. I have the castle with the lava falls. built a portal to nether and came out in your building then ported bag to your large building with the columns. Left some cobblestone in the box in the nether as I used you house. Thanks

That's my house you were in. :D

By default, all outerworld portals built within a certain range will connect to the same portal in the nether, which is why you ended up in my nether-house through your portal. Then for the return, it takes you to the closest overworld portal to where the nether portal is, which is why you ended up back in the columns building.

If you build a 2nd portal in the nether that is "nearer" to your place*, it will return you to there instead of to the columns building.

*The specific calculations are to take the overworld x and z coordinates and divide them by 8. So for example, if your place is at x=340,z=-210 then you'd want your nether-side portal to be somewhere around nether-coordinates x=42,z=-26. Due to the way it works, it probably won't be far at all from where the first nether-portal is.

If you liked playing in a sandbox as a kid, you will probably enjoy this game. I played it quite a bit at the beginning of the year and it was awesome. Now adventure mode is coming out and it will be even better. Try it out, and if you don't like it sell your password.

I wouldn't mind a new server even if it replaces the old survival server especially since someone thought it would be funny to pour lava into my dwelling.

I'll probably get back into it once adventure mode hits. It was more fun when everyone was on - it's fairly dead now.

I hoped on a few weeks back and it was dead no to mention I had no idea where I was.

The game was fun but got old IMHO with no long term objectives.

There were only SF people on that server, right? That's f'd up! I can't actually find my home anymore, so I don't even know what shape my place is in.

I logged in a while back and had no idea where I was. The starting point looked different and I couldn't find a single monument. It was strange and sad.
