I got worried, so I logged back in. Sure enough, somebody has jacked up my Falls building. The stairwell at the bottom is flooded with lava; a door has been hacked into the middle of the wall, and the top of it is just all jacked up after somebody cut through the dirt and flooded it.Quote:

As for me, my entire building near the spawn point is just gone altogether (although, it was made of wood), as is the original spawn house (also was made of wood). The stairs beneath the columns buildings had lava poured down them, too. That was all I saw before I gave up in frustration (I only logged in for about 5 mins after not having played for a month or two) and checked the map for other damage (when I saw the lava poured on the sharky building, snow dome, etc).
James: can you look at the world/players/* files and see if anyone new has logged in lately (last month or two)?
Sure.
For what it's worth, the server isn't public, and it isn't on a standard port. Meaning the only way people should find it is word of mouth from other sharks, or searching this forum, etc. (And yes, I know this forum is searchable via Google.) Just blows my mind someone would take the time to find our server and then **** all over it.

I figure, if new content is being added, then the best bet is to wipe so the new stuff gets pre-generated at the "start" of the world instance.
Added known users (including Zatanna) to the white-list, enabled it, and restarted the server. I've also got (finally) automated backups of the world running once a night.
I should have really passed off admin duties to someone with more time. >.>

I had actually "changed" it pretty much immediately but I didn't submit the changes until after I logged back in to Minecraft and wandered a bit, looked at the map, etc. Clarified a few things before I actually submitted it; for example, the room I thought they had newly built in The Falls, cutting through my staircase, was actually my main room; they had burrowed through the wall and then changed enough in there that I actually thought it was someplace completely different.Quote:

I'll definitely be playing when adventure mode comes out. That was one of the things I wanted to do with Briarwood, quests!
Last night I logged in and fixed up the hole in the roof/side of the columns building and reactivated the portal, then fixed the flooding in one of my other buildings, then tried to clean up some lava...at which point I fell in and lost all of my stuff in it. :p
Cleanup seems hardly worth it if we're moving to a new map soon anyway (latest estimate for 1.8 release is Monday), but at least it gives a little bit of "purpose" to playing the game.
I started to fix the falls but ended up catching fire. Luckily managed to jump off and into an errant stream of water; ended up with half a heart left.
With no easy way to get back to my main base (since the stairs to the tunnels are jacked) where I think I had some food, I just logged out. May try to fix it again later.
Barn is fixed, snow dome and lighthouse are clear of lava, tree farm is replanted.
Adding Minecraft to Steam even as a non-steam game = best idea ever. :D

Still working on fixing the falls, but I have made sure to get rid of that god awful "WE RULE" made out of netherstone. The falls will take a while to fix, it's somewhat delicate to get everything to fall in the anal retentive manner that I accept. :D
James, have you thought about adding server mods that discourage griefing?
I have not, but that's mostly because my job has been consuming much more of my time, and I've haven't been playing minecraft pretty much at all. You know what they say; out of sight out of mind.Quote:

Understandable! I would do it, but I don't know anything about running a server, and I get burnt out on Minecraft after I play it obsessively for two weeks straight, lol.
Played a bit tonight with dejarin and melsh. I don't even recognize our world anymore. Not from griefing, just from the sheer fact that I haven't spent quality time there in so long.
Interestingly, it was pointed out to me that someone posted the server on a Totalwar forum, claiming it was run by their cousin. Strangely, I don't have any cousins. :p
