sweet! :)
Hey guys where would the best place to get used and cheap hardware from? I'd like to setup another AMD XP rig with at least 256mb of RAM just for folding. Refurb section on newegg?

Also I should note that there is a new link on the FAQ that saps added, it's a milestones page:
Sharky Folding Team Milestones
Just letting everyone know it exists, so you can watch for your names on it.
Cool! Thanks for the heads up Mysti! :pQuote:

Sorry, forgot to quote....XP18004life:
Yeah, that would be a decent start. Alot of mom and pop computer
shops sell used computers as well. I'm going to the local computer show this coming weekend as I am sure I have seen sub 800mhz used computers for pretty cheap. As was said earlier, all you need is the box itself (ie no mouse, keyboard, monitor). Building a folding farm could be done fairly inexpensively if you do it right and it's for a great cause on top of that. You know, we could see a new trend here.
You could buy/build several folding boxes for the price of one high end video card. Those of us that spend insane amounts of money on hardware (relatively speaking of course :D ) should consider that...
My 9500pro should last me awhile anyway.
Yeah I've been looking around for a little now. I already have an old Gateway case at home to use, as well as a 5 gig HDD and some pc2100 RAM. I'll just grab a refurbed board from newegg or the classifieds as well as an 1800+ or something.
Like you said I don't need a monitor or peripherals, so that should cover everything. Maybe I'll head down to the Goodwill computer store for some items:)
if anyone's lookin for KVM switches, both me and the guy that runs our ChE lab can vouch for Linksys' products. we both run 21" CRTs at 1600x1200x32 @85Hz, and the switch has no issues with signal reproduction.
i gotta take a couple days off.. i'm taking apart my case for some custom work. i think i'll be on for another 3-4 days but when i start painting i obviously won't be able to stay folding =) it should only be down for a few days after that.. i'll be back up before thanksgiving definately
who says you need a case to fold? :p set up on some extra cardboard while you paint, you'll be fine. :D
which model you have, and how much did it cost ya? my main rig here has all it's own peripherals, but my other 2 systems have to share, and i don't have a kvm yet, so i was curiousQuote:

LOL, my friend on his p3 866 lappy still hasn't turned in a wu and he's been at it over a week now. :o
Just remember, its raw cpu power, that folds WU`s faster, not a high fsb.;)Quote:
