I don't think overclocking is stealing.

Every game I own was purchased at full retail either at CC or BB.
Some games I own 2 of so my wife & I can play together.

However, the "Holier than thou" judgemental attitude expressed by the majority of posters on this topic has me seriously thinking about changing my name to Redbeard and turning outlaw...

I find the small pop at McD analogy a little flawed. After working in food service for 5 years, I have found soft drinks to be one of the most profitable items on the menu. I was trained (and trained employees, once I became management) to ask "Would you like a drink to go with (insert food item here)?" if the customer didn't order a drink with their food. Why? Profit. While the cost of goods when it comes to the actual food is higher, the cost of goods when it comes to a soft drink is less than 25%.

Ok, so if a 5 gal bag in box of Coke cost $30 bucks (this is what we paid, i worked as the warehouse supervisor my last year, so I know what stuff really costs) and we get 1000 20 oz servings out of that BIB, that means the syrup costs .03 per serving. The cup may cost .05-.10, the water and CO2 might cost .05-.10, and maybe throw another .05 in for labor. We would then sell this for 2.00 (water park prices, thats why pop is so highly profitable), but McD would sell this for maybe 1.00. So at most, the cost of goods for this soft drink would be .30 or 30%.

So to FULLY get what you pay for when you buy a 20 oz pop, you technically when it comes to money have paid for those 4 refills, so in you aren't really stealing at all, thats why its allowed.

Just thought I would shed some light on this.

On topic now, i have a AMD XP M 2600+ running at 2.5 GHz. I paid $110 for it, at the time the 3200+ was $180. So I saved $70 and got a chip thats faster than the fastest one offered. Morally wrong? I dont think so. Its the nature of the consumer, you want to get the most for the least amount of money. If you think its stealing, then why do you wait for sales at stores?

By the way, harping at warez-monkies wont stop them from doing it, they'll probably laugh at you, not to mention the fact that most warez-monkies are so ****ing illiterate and stupid they will simply respond with "man you suk cok go eat your mom" or something else that is equally moronic.

What's the best plan? Ignore them and let the mods take care of it, that way you dont seem like a total nazi, becuase that's exactly what you seem like, (MOM), and you dont get the warez-monkey all worked up.

BTW, that is one badass burger, I really really want it. :)

Why blame the consumer? I'm sure AMD tests the chips to see what what speeds they could run at before they even get stamped with a XX00+ designation. When these IQYHA XP-M came out why didn't they see that they could do 2.6-2.7 on air? AMD could have marketed these chips as "XP Ultras" just like Intel did with their "Extreme" or whatever they called them chips, instead of letting the XP line die like they have. My overclock is all multiplier, the FSB is stock, so the mistake in selling these chips unlocked is AMDs.

So the consumers take advantage of AMDs mistake. As I said before, the consumer will try to get the most for the least amount of money. Why spend $180 on something when I can spend $110 and get something faster?

That is an entirely nonsensical point, as the two are unrelated, so how dense are you, for even bringing it up in the first place?

I do realize that you brought this up not necessarily to justify piracy, but to point out "morals", and comparing it to another common practice.
But, it is so unrelated, it should be treated as a joke, at best. Problem is, some here actually do want to see an analogy, as a justification for their actions. That is the part that really irritates me.

So Guru, if you major complaint is that it is no one elses business to be the morality police, then exactly whose place is it, huh?

When people buy a processor to o/c, as long as they don't try to return something they damaged, they are not stealing. What do they do.

1. Buy higher end motherboards with o/c features, for which they pay more.

2. Buy high-end RAM, which is more expensive than regular rated RAM needed to run default speeds.

3. Buy high-end power supplies to feed power to those devices.

4. Buy extra or high-end cooling components to keep all those power hungry devices cool.

A good point that was brought up was economies of scale. AMD and Intel don't want to replace CPUs that people burned up through abuse from o/c, and as well they shouldn't. But they also know that these people are enthusiests that will, on average, replace/upgrade their CPUs several times during the time frame that the average PC buyer will turn over their computer system for a new one; that only occurs about 3-4 years on average.

When some one takes something and never pays for it, then the cost of that theft is passed along to every other consumer that does legitimately buy their stuff. When the cost of theft is passed on to them, they have every right to be pissed off and make moral judgements against those that steal. As game prices rise because the developer has to charge more, to those of us that buy our software, to offset piracy I get mad, and quite honestly, you should too. Some will say that not all of the pirated software would have been purchased anyway. Then why did the person that downloaded it actually download. There had to be interest in the software for them to want to download it. Maybe they wouldn't have purchased the program at retail prices, but they may have purchased the game later on when the prices came down some. Either way, the makers got some return for their work.

Agreed, other than the part about "cramming values" down someone's throat. To me, that's saying we should be more tolerant of different values we may hold. True to some extent, except that (here I go again, forgive me) stealing [software] isn't really all that relative of a moral value.
