Most people will want to play the classic games, and I would. The post was about how much it would cost ME to get started with the wii. You can do whatever you want. Why not get 4gig? Why not get 8gig for 75 bucks? Eventually I am going to need it.

Xbox live is 5 dollars a month. Which is 60 dollars a year. I would rather pay for great online than get crappy free online (PS3) or no online (Wii as of now).

I intend to purchase a lot of VC games as well, but I have no immediate plans to buy an SD card. With 512 MB of built-in memory, it's simply not necessary yet.

I haven't seen any stats on the size of Wii saves or VC file (anyone?), but there's no way you're going to fill that up anytime soon -- even if you were to buy every single VC title currently available.

for the 360 it is, LIVE is pretty much one of the main foundations of the 360, hell the first screen you see when you turn on the 360 is the LIVE logon screen

You're welcome to buy one if you think you need it, I just didn't want others to think it was a required purchase. :) At least as far as I can tell, still haven't found any good info on file sizes.

I want it because it lets me take my saves games away from my console and lets me store music on it to play on the wii. You thought you knew the whole situation...

And if you can minimize the cost of Live (fallaciously, IMHO) by saying it comes to only $5 per month, you can also claim that the free PS3 online service is a $240 value.

If you're interested in a console with a hard drive and wireless online play (for the life of the console, say 4 years), the premium PS3 is quite a bit cheaper, huh? $740 for an xbox 360 vs. $600 for a PS3. The PS3 online service is free isn't it?

(300(core)+100(wifi)+100(hard drive)+240(live for 4 years) = $740)

but like tinman said, i am pretty sure that M$ LIVE is alot more fleshed out than Sonys offering. even so, to me, if you look at the big picture, the ps3 is not overpriced.

I haven't even used Live on Xbox 360 yet, but with the Xbox/PS2 online services the biggest differences that made Xbox a lot better were 1.) a global friends list and 2.) free downloadable content for games. The free PS3 online service has this stuff at least:

The PS3 is not overpriced, I agree with you. For the stuff you are getting, its a good deal. However, it falls to the fact that it has an equivalent competitor at a very competitive pricepoint. Thats the problem.

I agree entirely with you that the PS3 is not the overpriced system. In fact, if there's anybody practicing predatory pricing its Sony.

Now its up to whoever better implements those features. At this point in time its Microsoft, Xbox Live is an amazing selling point. With the PS3 its "online what ?". The Xbox has a far better library at this point in time. Most multiplatform release games at this time seem to run poorly or below that of the xbox 360. You can say its more expensive, blah, blah, blah. But apparrently we believe its worth the money and that is what counts. Technical analysis will get you nowhere here. More than likely when you pay for an addon you want, your ten times more likely to actually use the damn thing than if it was included free. The issue is not value for money, but better implementation of features. People pay for quality, those who pay for value shouldn't be buying a next gen console within the first three weeks after release anyway.
