I use Intel and AMD processors and have had no fewer and no more problems with one proc over the other. They both seem pretty equally matched. I stay away from Cyrix, but I can't remember why. Anyway, its too bad you already went and bought a chip, becuase I would have suggested an abacus. The performance is a little on the down side, the accuracy is only as good as you are accurate, and it won't run any of your peripherals, but you can't beat it for reliability.

And, while I'm at it, do you know if there is such a thing as a Socket-370 Intel PIII 1GHZ?? I wasn't sure if this existed, just checking. And if so, is there a difference (beside the obvious in slots) between a Socket-370 and a Slot 1???

Dumbfounded, your reply is exactly that. The systems in question, in fact, were both the SAME price, and so cost was not an issue.
I chose to go with Intel because of my own feelings and whose opinions I have considered in forum. I don't need to be criticized, however, by ignorant people such as you.

OKAY when buying processors I know this is crazy but get an Intel Pentium III @ 933MHz because it has the same speed as a Intel 1 Gigahertz. No real changes. AMD has alot of glitches so be careful. If you want a high end processor cheap go for an AMD put if you want speed and reliability you need to get an Intel Pentium III 933. They take less energy and make less heat, and overall perform better than AMD.Quote:

In my friend's situation, he bought an online re-seller's "bundle"... 1GHz T-Bird, Asus Mobo and "recommended" HSF. Maybe the reseller should have done THEIR research. I wonder how many customers they "burned", pardon the pun.Quote:

All I can tell you is I've used both. A lot.
All I can say is that Intel seems to have a lot of skeletons in their closet. The famous F00F bug is just one. But the fact that I have to grab a patch from Mikrosoft to install Win95 on an AMD system leaves just as big a black eye on AMD. (Even if it IS a M$ programming bug, the fact that the flaw doesn't show up on Intel procs isn't good for AMD. Just comming from a consumer POV).
No one does it flawlessly. To hoop and haw and raise a banner for one particular company
is great for that company. But in the real world, lets grow up. Is a "jack-off" motion too innapropriate here?
What a load of crap. I have a TBird 800 system on a KT7 and it is rock solid. And yes, it does kick the p3's *** especially when it comes to FPU power. I run PSPICE and it runs much, MUCH faster on the Athlon. In my own C++ FPU code, it is only about 40% faster than the equivalently clocked p3. *** kicking? HAH! I would consider that utter humiliation. Most of the benches out there showing Athlon and p3 equal or 'very close' in FPU performance are crap and bogus. Athlon is much faster, especially with compiler generated code (the vast majority of code).Quote:

Let's face it, Intel also had their fare share of problems.
