That`s great, but I`m stuck with the two I have now, I have been thinking of getting a 2500+ and replacing my 1600+ with my 2100+. It seems like my problem with my 1600+ rig is gone, it has completed one WU and is 50% through anotherone without a lockup. :)Quote:

Is there a way to transfer a completed WU that won't send to another computer so that it can send the WU? I'm having issues with one of the computers - it will download WU's but not send back.
As long as its queued don't worry yet. Check this page out View your log file and see where you got the WU's which cannot be sent; its likely the net load is too great. I personally had an instance where I had a pair of WU's stored and was nearly completed with a third WU before the two queued sent themselves in.
it's likely not the computer but the stanford server. folding tries to send back results every so often, though, so the best thing is just to wait it out. as saps said, as long as they're queued you're okay. :)Quote:

Alright, not sure if this has been discussed about yet or not. Right now I have Folding@Home 3.24. I have Folding@Home checked off in the msconfig (under the startup tab) and it does start up when the comptuer is started up or rebooted, but the thing is I don't get that red flower in my task tray. I know its running cause under my task manager it shows my cpu usage at 100% and it shows folding running under the processes tab. So did I not configure something correctly? Any suggestions to get this program running and running well would be great.

DO you got the console version? I physically placed the shortcut of the red icon in my startup folder and I got the GUI
I downloaded the first one on the list under the downloads page so I'm guessing thats the GUI version. I have an AMD Duron machine running it right now just incase you needed to know. I have tried placing the folding short cut in my startup folder and it still doesn't show the red flower in the task tray.

When I go and double click the icon after a reboot a window pops up and says you already have folding@home running, closing current one. I mean the program boots up on startups/reboots but I just don't get the red flower in my task tray and I can't bring up the GUI Interface and was wondering how I fix it.
You have the GUI--that's the first in the list of downloads.
Which OS are you running?
In XP the GUI automatically installs a startup file shortcut (which you need to configure or replace), and a system tray icon.
Well, I thought I had found my problem, I guess not. It had run two WU`s in a row with no problems at all then it will for no reason at all do a hard lockup and when I restart, like this morning it showed in the unit info I had completed 51% of the work, but in the file log it only showed having completed 38% of the work and I got a "checksum`s don`t match(work/wudata_03.xtc)error and stated it was starting from original work package. It was doing this overclocked, but I went back to stock and it started doing it again. I have checked the temps, voltages and even run memtest85 and super pi for 32mb`s and no errors at all. Did a dianostics on hard drive it passed. Does anyone know what would cause something like this to happen randomly. BTW, I`m running Win98se on this computer and I don`t know if it matters but I have a 40GB hard drive on it, with just one particion(sp).
Maybe it was a simulation instability, which apparently happens occationally (I've had one out of 45 WUs):
What is simulation instability?
The simulation of molecular motion involves a great deal of computation. Each run consists of a number of time steps (each very small). At each time step, the position of the various atoms is calculated and updated, based on a number of factors. Sometimes, the simulation enters into a state that is not legal (i.e. atoms are too close, bonds are in impossible angles, etc.). At times like this, the Core exits, and information is uploaded to the server. The client will then get another assignment. If your computer is stable, then you haven't done anything wrong. On unstable computers, it is possible that the simulation instability was brought on by a fault of the system rather than something intrinsic to the work unit. Because of this, a work unit may be sent out again at some time if it is returned as having run into instability. In a given project, we expect a small percentage of units to encounter legitimate instability.

All right, now I have 4 WU's in my queue. I can still download them, but it won't send. I think it's a firewall/proxy thing - does anybody know how I can take these home to transfer them?
i wonder if you can copy the entire F@H directory, bring it home to your computer, and then copy it over and start it up...you'd obviously have to have your other client stopped before you started the one you brought home, but i don't think it would mess anything up...worth a shot.Quote:

I'm thinking about doing that, except in a new folder on my laptop. Then I could stop my laptop from folding, start the copied version, then stop it after it sent the WU's and start the regular folding again. Simple, huh?Quote:

do any of you guys know how to disable 3DNow extenstions? i've heard they slow performance over no optimizations, and i just checked the logs of the 2 older systems that i have folding for me part time (800mhz slot A athlon, and 1.2 T-bird, neither are SSE capable), both are using 3DNow instructions....do i just uncheck the "disable highly optimized assembly code" in the configuration settings?
*edit* nm, figured it out....now to see if actually speeds up or slows down....

I tried that today with no luck, but it was from an AMD to an Intel. :mad: I just kept getting an error that shutdown F@H without explanation. Please share if anyone can make this work.Quote:

it's odd...i'm going to have to do some more investigating, but on the faster system, the 1.2 t-bird, it increased by a marginal amount, about 20 seconds per %, but on the slower 800Mhz machine, the folding time for a percentage increased dramatically, taking almost twice as long....so i'm not entirely decided yet...Quote:

I ask only because sapasion indicates this in his folding how to thread. Also because I am getting tons of file io errors and failure to decompress new workunits and wonder if this might be a reason why. My FAH will download a new WU, then the log will show an error trying to open it. It will then delete the WU and download a new one. Sometimes this will happen several times in immediate succession, then it will get one it "likes" and begin folding from start to finish with no problem. At first I thought instability might the problem, but all three of my rigs are doing it from time to time and thats even lowering them to stock settings. My main system in particular I can loop prime95 and run toast for days with no prob, and that's at OC. These errors always seem to happen right after downloading a new WU and before actual crunching begins. I've never had an error during or at the end of a WU. I am running only the 4.00 beta at startup with the -advmethods and -forceSSE extensions on all three.
The way I did it was download the 3.24 and the 4.01 beta and then I installed the 3.24 and moved the 4.01 beta into the 3.24 folder in program files, made a sortcut to the desktop of the the 4.01 beta and then put in -advmethods and -forceSSE. I then put a copy of the 4.01 shortcut into the startup folder, after deleting the 3.4 that was put in there.
i think you need the 3.24 installed. i'm not 100% positive, though. that is my best guess as to why you are having problems, but again, i could be wrong.Quote:
