Is that a "time to go to the bank now" or a "time to go to the bank when NV30 hits" ? :)Quote:

actually if you get an ax-7 or alpha, you can use a very quiet 80mm fan that cools fine.Quote:

Nah Im gonna wait for the price drop. I also want to see if AMD ever plans to release the TBRED, or whats gonna happen with the 850E chipset. As for the NV30 I havent missed a Geforce yet, and I definetly wont miss the NV30 I think its gonna be a bigger leap forward than the 4600 was. Ill be back. Trust me the little one will be well taken care of, hell get what ever he wants when he wants it. I have two little girls each has their own computer. One has a Tbird 1400 with a gf3.LOL dont worry Jr. will be well taken care of.Quote:

I've been on this thread since the beginning though, my works in progress per say...
I've figured out the reason for my Gefore3 Ti500's crappy ocing. The standard cooling is absolutely horrid! I took off the HSF and i could see VERY deep grooves in the base where it was supposed to contact the core. Furthermore, as i began to lap it with 800 grit paper, after about 2-3 mins, a ring of lapped metal formed around the outside. So i think to myself "how the frick did this piece of junk ever get put on such a high end card?" I mean, it's absolutely horrid in regards to smoothness and it is CONCAVE! i'd post pics but my dad took the digi cam. The entire contact surface is marked by thick and deep grooves like this:
---------
========= That's what the bottom of the HS looks like! :eek:
---------
=========
and since it's concave, the surface that is supposed to be in contact with the core doesn't even come close...no wonder my core OC was limited to a measly 250mhz (10mhz over regular). I think a blorb or crystal orb will fix things up nicely. Have to lap those too but it shouldn't be too much of a pain in the a$$. Well, i'm off to do some shopping :)
Mystif or anyone else who's taken off ramsinks:
How do you get a ramsink off? It is stuck on with thermal tape and i've tried just ripping it off, no go. Should i freeze the card and use a flathead as i did to the HSF of my old geforce 256? any suggestions as to how to approach this with minimal risk are wanted!
Place a credit card on the card itself and use a screwdriver to pry it off...I've twisted off quite a few with just my fingers though ;)Quote:

Drum roll please,......................
I DROPPED IT! Yep thats right, straight on my concrete floor :eek: luckily nothing on the card was hurt, but atleast I had reason to lap the ramsinks(Stock) and throw on some AS2 epoxy. That was my old ELSA GF2 Ultra though, I miss that baby, HELL OF A CARD! I want an ELSA GF4 Ti4x00 :mad: Why did they have to stop making the good cards :(
I went with the maximum force approach, took a pair of pliers and yanked the hell out of it. Destroyed the ramsink in the process but i bought TT ramsinks anyways, looks like i'll have use for them yet :DQuote:
