Who's to say the Chargers didn't want Rivers in the first place, and just decided to make the best out of the situation with Eli?

Plus, do you really think Eli would have just sat out for a year if he went to San Diego? He would have to be crazy. If he stayed with San Diego, NY would have picked up some QB in the draft, so he wouldn't be going there any time soon. They weren't just going to tank the season to get a high enough pick to take him next year. If he decided to pout and not play hard, his stock would drop a mile by the time he actually reached free agency. He would never have actually sat out. All he did was tell San Diego that he would rather not be there.

The NFL is big business. It was a business move, and both sides ended up with what they wanted.

Elway did the exact same thing to the Oilers, he just simply wanted to play with the Broncos instead :D

I'll admit on the money thing, I had been thinking only contract and forgot the extra money from big market versus small market. Still, I don't believe that the entire situation was all about money. Even if it was all about that, I still don't see the problem with him wanting to go somewhere else.

I'm not sure what other point you could be talking about...the one about rookies getting used and abused? You say they shouldn't do this kind of thing, they should just suck it up and take it, but I'm not so sure about that. They can whine all they want, but in the end they're still going to go where the league tells them to after draft day, so who cares. Eli obviously had the clout to pull this off, so he did.

I don't think Cutler will replace Plummer anytime soon unless they lose against KC. Dever is still in the playoff picture and Shannahan isn't going to risk adding an unknown into the equation. The reason why Parcells did it in Dallas was that the cowboys were at a make or break point in the season. I honestly believe that if the cowboys were able to pull out a win agianst the giants, even w/ Bledsoe's terrible numbers and sacks, he wouldn't of lost the starting job when he did. Parcells took a gamble and it paid off. I'm just not sure Shannahan is willing to do this just yet.

not really, he had his whiney old man making threats for him...

doesn't matter who the player is, joe montana or maurice clarett, if they threaten you by saying they will not play for your team you don't want to take the player because #1 you don't want problems and a distraction for your team and #2 they are obviously immature and you don't want to be mommy and daddy for the person who never had to grow up....you trade and wash your hands.

Well Rivers will be laughing all the way to the playoffs while Eli Eli Oh will get to watch it from the confort of his own living room couch thinking "Damn! that could be me playing w/ the future Hall of Famer LT!". :)

What threats? He told them that he would rather his son was not taken by them. The Chargers had even had a private workout with Eli earlier on where there was no sort of problem. Eli was prepared to play for San Diego if they took him; he just let them know that he would prefer to go elsewhere.

I won't argue with that, that's what I'd do. I'm still not going to hold it against Eli forever that he decided to try to get out of going someplace he didn't want to go.

Especially when his own future hall of famer Tiki Barber is suddenly "probably not a future hall of famer" since he's probably retiring. :D

I dont think Cutler will come in this year either...maybe not even next year...but the fans and I sure want him to. We are all sick of Plummer, he always loses the important games. (exept the Patriots last year in the playoffs, but that is last year, his one and only good year.) Yes, Plummer has had a couple good games this year, nothing outstanding, but good for Plummer. But his good games are greatly outnumbered by his suck games.

Oh, and Romo is another non-rookie starter, once again he shouldnt be compared to rookie QB's like Cutler.

Bledsoe was pulled halfway through the Giants game, when they were only down 12-7 or so. He didn't have a chance to win the game and keep his job. The Giants scored another 14 before Romo even put anything on the board.

dude, you don't come out of college and dictate terms, you don't tell the league who you are going to play for... it shows a lack of understanding, and maturity on your part to take that course of action - it shows he never had to grow up and has always had his way, since he is the baby....

Ski, I'm not just talking about football. Eric Lindros certainly comes to mind, though he ended up on my favorite hockey team.

Incoming rookies of any sport should not be allowed to dictate such terms to a League, not even when they are heralded as "the next Jordan of (insert sport here)".
