Most likely because the GF3's T&L Unit isn't as good in polygon pushing as the older GeForces. Polygon tests seem to purely based on MHz on the core, so if you have something higher than my 220MHz core you'll most likely beat it, even if the GF2 MX is technicaly inferior to the GF3 in polygon throughput. I think this is why the GF3 runs faster in software T&L mode than Pure Hardware T&L mode on the Nature scene because the triangle setup engine isn't that great.
