Sharky's own community game server?

I have a static ip. (216.231.184.30 is the ip) (216.231.184.29 if you want to ping my modem)
I have a 1.1mb up/down connetion
I have a dedicated 1.4ghz 512mb ram server running RH9.0. AVG cpu usage a day 3%.

I am very familiar with video game servers. I have setup a UT2k3, UT, CS, and Quake 3 servers. Not all of them at one time of coarse but still set it up and had friends connect. I am currently going to school for computer engineering and this is a type of hobby for me so spending time on it isnt a problem. I probably could setup any type of game i wanted given enough time to figure it out. I have the server setup to startup when the power goes out and at one time had UT2k3 setup to do an automatic startup when/if the machine rebooted.

The only major problem i have is that i live in the lower part of alabama and it would be VERY hard for me to give out good pings to someone on the west coast. It would be possible for me to call my isp and talk with them about colocating on there oc connection but that would be iffy seeings how i havnt heard of them advertising anything about that type of stuff.

If yall decided on a game someone PM me and ill set one up and yall can test it or what not. I would perfer yall pick from the games i have (CS UT UT2k3 quake3) where i could test it my own self plus i would be able to play :D. CS or ut2k3 i would perfer yall choose sense i havent messed with quake or regualer UT in such a LONG time.

alright ACE that would be great....talk to your ISP see what they can do about colocation - i think at the beginning CS would be the best to test, since most ppl here play it, so we could really get a range of how good pings people get

other than that - Mystif - can you set your computer to automatically startup after a powerfailure? but other than that, at least until there is a powerfailure, we would have a server, so why not take the chance?

as well as lavalva's connection - that would be three servers, so three different games that we could run

anyone got any more ideas?

Basically what I have been saying is that I will only host my own server, because I don't want the extra responsibility. In the next few days I can start working on getting my server functioning as a game server again.

well i will probably get to work on it tomorrow afternoon then seeings how final's will be over with and i got a month to screw around :D.

nice guys - thats two servers we got....the more servers we get, the more games we can cover!

Well...I could possibly set up a server in my dorm, if I get some scratch together...gotta get that damn job. Anyways, I got 100mbps connection but a 1GB/day download and 500MB/day upload limit per computer connected (the school caps by mac address). I just don't have a spare computer on me right now, that's the only hiccup. If I do decide to get a server box, I'll let you know.

only problem is that when I'm not here...the rig won't be on because we can't leave anything plugged in. I can't leave it on during christmas, 1 week in the spring, thanksgiving, october break, or the summer. It'd only be on about 1/2 year...not exactly ideal.

why cant you leave it plugged in?

CS version 1.5 or 1.6?
10-16 players for now. More can be added if needed so dont get all pissy.

I am currently updating this CS server and in 3-6 hours I should have it up. Not saying i will have all the bugs worked out of it but it will be up and running.
