Probably gonna be a while before we can play Nethack or Master of Orion on our PPC's but I thought of a way around it:

Simply play the DOS and Win games that have a port on SNES or PS1. Diablo, X-Com and Command and Conquer on handheld? Cool. (course it's another 200 bucks for the card to hold the PS1 roms, not so cool)

So what PDA can I get thats cheap and will play a SNES emulator at full speed? (w/ or w/o sound)
EDIT: And has WiFi and can play DivX, as well.

i think only the dell x30 620mhz can currently play all SNES games at 100% full speed with sound at stock settings.... most 400mhz PocketPCs (like my ipaq 4155 and dell x3i) can play most SNES games at close to full speed and sound at stock settings.... however you can overclock em up to about 520mhz (using xcpuscalar) to get close to full speed in all games.
The Asus a620 is pretty cheap ($150 used on ebay) and is pretty fast for games and also has the ebst D-pad for games but it doesnt have wifi onboard.. you have to buy a CF wifi card.
Throw out the toshibas because they have a problem with button-lag so they are useless for gaming.
The Dells are really good value.. you can get an x3i or the x30 (fastest PDA on the market) for like $250 and they have built in WiFi and BlueTooth but the D-pad is one of the worst for games.
I like my Ipaq 4155 because it pretty much does everything well... SUPER SMALL, has BT and WiFi, fast 400mhz cpu, decent D-pad... price is lil steep though... still retails for $300+
And if I were to go the cheap route, how much would I have to pay for the WiFi card? Furthermore, does it take up any space on the PDA itself, or does it go inside the thing like a memory stick?
Also, you mentioned being able to view powerpoint documents, is the Asus a620 capable of doing this, as almost all of my classes have notes posted on PPT.

the asus a620 has a single CF slot... a CF wifi card (like $30 on ebay) would fit inside the slot and a little nub for the antenna would stick out.... a disadvantage of this is that you cant use a CF memory card at the same time since it only has one slot and the wifi isnt built in.
Just about all current PocketPCs can do the exact same thing wince they all run the same OS... you just need to get the software

One vote for the a620. Best dpad for gaming and 150 for them now is a steal if you don't care about wi-fi. Paid 300 for mine about a year ago with bluetooth.
I recommend a purhase of a PDA for emulation. The SNES seems to be most peoples idea of the best console so imagine palying all the old classics anywhere. Oddly enough Prince of Persia (SNES) works flawlessly on the a620. The first time you fire up one of your old favorites on a handheld is an emotional moment to say the least.
